class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The Software Technology Parks of India (STPI), is repositioning itself to drive the next wave of inclusive and innovation-driven IT growth across the country, especially targeting Tier-II and Tier-III cities.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Software Technology Parks of India (STPI)<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>STPI is a body set up under the <strong>Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology<\/strong> in <strong>1991 <\/strong>to promote the growth of\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>the <strong>IT\/ITeS (Information Technology \/ Information Technology enabled Services) <\/strong>and\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>ESDM (Electronics System Design and Manufacturing) industry<\/strong> in India.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>It was established to offer <strong>software certification, tax holidays and incentives<\/strong> and high speed data connections.\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>It played a key role in turning the infant IT sector into a major export-oriented industry.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Headquarters: <\/strong>New Delhi<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Early Focus Cities:<\/strong> The initial STPIs were set up in <strong>Bengaluru, Pune, and Bhubaneswar,<\/strong> which played a pivotal role in the early development of the IT sector.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Economic Contributions:<\/strong> As of the financial year<strong> 2024\u201325<\/strong>, STPI-registered units contributed software exports worth approximately <strong>\u20b910.59 lakh crore<\/strong> (about $110 billion).\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>This amount constitutes over half of India\u2019s total software exports, which exceed <strong>$200 billion.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Software Technology Parks of India (STPI) 2.0<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Wider Geographical Outreach: <\/strong>STPI has expanded to 67 centres across the country, significantly increasing its footprint beyond traditional metro cities.\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Of the total centres, 59 are located in <strong>Tier-II and Tier-III cities<\/strong>, reflecting a conscious effort to spread IT growth to underrepresented regions.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Decentralisation of IT Services: <\/strong>The initiative aims to bring IT-enabled services (ITeS), software development, and business process management (BPM) opportunities to smaller towns and cities.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Targeting Youth and Local Entrepreneurs: <\/strong>By moving closer to educational institutions and smaller urban clusters, STPI seeks to empower youth and aspiring entrepreneurs with access to digital opportunities.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Creation of Large-Scale Incubation Infrastructure:<\/strong> STPI has developed over <strong>17 lakh square feet<\/strong> of incubation space to support emerging startups and tech ventures.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Support for Startups and MSMEs: <\/strong>These incubation spaces are designed to accommodate micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), especially those focused on software products and services.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Policy Convergence and National Alignment<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>STPI\u2019s renewed mandate complements the Government of India\u2019s flagship schemes like;\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Under Digital India<\/strong>, STPI is expanding digital infrastructure to remote and underserved areas.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>As part of <strong>Startup India<\/strong>, it is promoting early-stage innovation and entrepreneurship.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In line with the <strong>Make in India,<\/strong> STPI supports indigenous technology development and software production.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Way Ahead<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>India\u2019s global leadership in IT has so far been driven largely by service exports, which, while significant, offer limited value addition in the long term.\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>To remain competitive in the evolving digital landscape, the country must now pivot towards a robust software product-based economy.\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The <strong>National Policy on Software Products (NPSP) 2019 <\/strong>rightly emphasises this transition by advocating for indigenous innovation and IP-led growth.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Source:
