{"id":47432,"date":"2025-07-09T21:02:11","date_gmt":"2025-07-09T15:32:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.nextias.com\/ca\/?p=47432"},"modified":"2025-07-26T16:58:23","modified_gmt":"2025-07-26T11:28:23","slug":"jal-jeevan-mission-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.nextias.com\/ca\/current-affairs\/09-07-2025\/jal-jeevan-mission-2","title":{"rendered":"Jal Jeevan Mission\u00a0"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h1 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Mission<\/h1>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Syllabus: GS2\/Governance<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Context<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The Jammu &amp; Kashmir Assembly\u2019s House Committee is currently probing allegations of irregularities in the implementation of the <strong>Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) <\/strong>in the region.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Background<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>During the Budget Session, <strong>concerns were raised over the implementation of the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM)<\/strong> in Jammu &amp; Kashmir like;\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Use of substandard materials<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Incomplete and abandoned water supply schemes<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Corruption and misuse of public funds<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Failure in providing tap connections despite funds being released<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>As a result, a <strong>House Committee was established,<\/strong> and it issued a public notice inviting citizens and stakeholders to report malpractices.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-table\"><table class=\"has-background\" style=\"background-color:#ebecf0\"><tbody><tr><td><strong>Jal Jeevan Mission<\/strong><br>&#8211; It was launched by the Prime Minister in <strong>2019<\/strong>.<br>&#8211; <strong>Concerned Ministry:<\/strong> It comes under the Ministry of Jal Shakti.<br>&#8211; <strong>Aim: <\/strong>To provide tap connections to about <strong>16 crore rural households<\/strong> to achieve <strong>saturation coverage by 2028 (earlier 2024).<\/strong><br>&#8211; <strong>Mandatory components include: <\/strong>Source sustainability, Greywater management, Water conservation and Rainwater harvesting.<br>&#8211; Retrofitting of ongoing and completed schemes to <strong>provide FHTCs<\/strong> at a minimum service level of <strong>55 liters per capita per day (lpcd).<\/strong><br>&#8211; <strong>Mission Objectives:<\/strong><br>1. <strong>Empowering Women: <\/strong>Reduces the burden on women of fetching water. Improves health, education, and socio-economic status of women.<br>2. <strong>Ease of Living: <\/strong>Enhances the dignity and quality of life of rural families.<br>&#8211; <strong>Community <\/strong><br>1. <strong>Approach:<\/strong>Focus on Information, Education, and Communication (IEC).<br>2.
