{"id":47430,"date":"2025-07-09T21:01:27","date_gmt":"2025-07-09T15:31:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.nextias.com\/ca\/?p=47430"},"modified":"2025-07-30T15:52:25","modified_gmt":"2025-07-30T10:22:25","slug":"parakh-rashtriya-sarvekshan-2024","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.nextias.com\/ca\/current-affairs\/09-07-2025\/parakh-rashtriya-sarvekshan-2024","title":{"rendered":"Parakh Rashtriya Sarvekshan 2024"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>Syllabus: GS2\/ Education<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Context<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Recently, the <strong>Performance Assessment, Review, and Analysis of Knowledge for Holistic Development Rashtriya Sarvekshan (PARAKH RS)<\/strong>, formerly known as the National Achievement Survey (NAS), released its findings.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>About PARAKH RS<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>PARAKH is a national assessment body set up under the <strong>National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT)<\/strong> and mandated by the <strong>National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Objective:<\/strong> To standardize assessment practices across the states and to provide reliable data on students\u2019 learning outcomes.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>2024 Survey Coverage:<\/strong>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Assessed over <strong>21 lakh students<\/strong> from 74,229 schools across 781 districts.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Subjects included language and mathematics for all grades, &#8220;<strong>The World Around Us&#8221;<\/strong> for Grades 3 and 6, and science and <strong>social science<\/strong> for Grade 9.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>2.7 lakh teachers and school leaders <\/strong>also participated through questionnaires.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Key Findings of the Survey<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Top Performing States\/UTs: <\/strong>Punjab, Kerala, Himachal Pradesh, Dadra &amp; Nagar Haveli and Daman &amp; Diu, Chandigarh.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Low Performing Districts:<\/strong>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Grade 3:<\/strong> Sahebganj (Jharkhand), Reasi and Rajouri (J&amp;K)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Grade 6:<\/strong> North, South, and South West Garo Hills (Meghalaya)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Grade 9: <\/strong>Shi Yomi (Arunachal Pradesh), South West and North Garo Hills (Meghalaya).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Grade-Wise Learning Outcomes:<\/strong>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Grade 3: Only 55% <\/strong>could order numbers up to 99; 54% understood basic multiplication\/division.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Grade 6: 44%<\/strong> identified environmental\/social elements; 38% made predictions based on patterns.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Grade 9: 45%<\/strong> understood the Constitution and national movement; 54% extracted key points from texts.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Concerns Arising from the Survey<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Declining Competency with Advancing Grades:<\/strong> There is a notable drop in learning outcomes from Grade 3 to Grade 9, especially in conceptual understanding and application.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Urban-Rural and Regional Inequities:<\/strong> Northeastern states like Meghalaya and Arunachal Pradesh continue to lag in foundational literacy and numeracy skills.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Public School Challenges:<\/strong> Government-aided and state schools underperform in mathematics and sciences, particularly in middle and high school levels.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Government Initiatives for Learning Improvement<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>National Education Policy (NEP) 2020:<\/strong> Focus on foundational literacy and numeracy by <strong>Grade 3<\/strong>;
