Connectivity: <\/strong>The <strong>Central Asian<\/strong> leaders stressed the importance of diversifying trade baskets to ensure sustainable and predictable economic interactions.\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>EAM emphasized the need to expand air services and streamline transit procedures, making trade more efficient.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Commitment from Central Asian Nations:<\/strong>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Kazakhstan<\/strong> praised India&#8217;s innovation-driven business community, expressing commitment to deepening economic ties.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Kyrgyzstan<\/strong> reaffirmed the strategic partnership between India and Central Asia, highlighting the potential for mutual growth.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Turkmenistan<\/strong> described India as a major and promising partner, recognizing its role in shaping a modern geo-economic architecture in Asia.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>About Central Asia<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The <strong>five Central Asian Republics (CARS)<\/strong> viz <strong><em>Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan<\/em><\/strong>.\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>These countries attained independence on the <strong>disintegration of the Soviet Union<\/strong> in 1991.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>All the <strong>5 countries are land-locked.<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>All the five countries are richly endowed with natural and mineral resources.\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Kazakhstan <\/strong>has huge commercially viable quantities of most minerals like coal, oil, gas, uranium, gold, lead, zinc, iron ore, tin, copper, manganese, chromite, bauxite and several more.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Turkmenistan <\/strong>contains the <strong>world&#8217;s fourth largest reserves of natural gas<\/strong> while having significant quantities of cotton, uranium, petroleum, salt and sulfur.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Uzbekistan <\/strong>is richly endowed with gas, uranium, cotton, silver and gold.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan<\/strong> have significant supplies of fresh water.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Kyrgyzstan<\/strong> has significant reserves of gold, uranium, mercury and lead.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>India\u2019s engagement with Central Asia has evolved into a strategic partnership, focusing on <strong>trade, connectivity, security, and cultural exchange<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>India-Central Asia Ties<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Early Times: <\/strong>India has several millennia old historical, cultural and civilisational links with Central Asia.\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Brisk trade of <strong>goods, ideas and thoughts <\/strong>took place from India (and China) to Central Asia and beyond over the <strong>Silk Road from 3rd century BC to 15th century AD.<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Buddhism <\/strong>travelled to <strong>Afghanistan, Central Asia and Western China<\/strong> from India through the Silk Road.\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Alexander of Macedonia, Kushans, Babar, Mughals and Sufism are evidence of vigorous <strong>links between India and the Central Asian region<\/strong> over the ages.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Trade &amp; Economic Cooperation:<\/strong> India and Central Asia focus on energy, pharmaceuticals, textiles, and technology.\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Both have emphasized the need for greater investment and trade facilitation, particularly through <strong>Chabahar Port<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Connectivity &amp; Infrastructure Development: <\/strong>India is actively promoting regional connectivity through initiatives like the <strong>International North-South Transport Corridor (INSTC)<\/strong> and air service expansion.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Security &amp; Geopolitical Collaboration: <\/strong>Both share concerns over regional security, particularly in counter-terrorism and stability in Afghanistan.\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The <strong>India-Central Asia Dialogue<\/strong> has strengthened cooperation in defense, intelligence sharing, and cybersecurity, ensuring a secure and stable regional environment.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Cultural &amp; Limited Economic Integration: <\/strong>India&#8217;s trade with Central Asia hovers below $2 billion annually\u2014negligible compared to China\u2019s ~$50 billion with the region.<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Logistical challenges, high tariffs, and regulatory complexities continue to limit trade expansion.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Connectivity &amp; Digital Integration Issues:<\/strong> Regulatory misalignment and limited banking infrastructure in Central Asia pose challenges to seamless financial transactions.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Way Ahead<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Infrastructure and Connectivity:<\/strong> Accelerate Chabahar Port Phase-2 and Chabahar-Zahedan rail link.\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Expand cooperation on the International North-South Transport Corridor (INSTC), linking Mumbai to Central Asia via Iran and the Caucasus.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Institutional Strengthening: <\/strong>Create a Central Asia Task Force within the MEA.\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Regularise the India-Central Asia Dialogue and Leaders\u2019 Summits.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Trade and Economic Diplomacy: <\/strong>Work towards a Central Asia-India FTA or regional trade pact.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Energy Cooperation:<\/strong> Explore partnerships in green hydrogen, solar energy, and critical minerals.
