Plan on Climate Change (NAPCC).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Mission LiFE<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>At the <strong>2021<\/strong> UN Climate Change Conference <strong>(UNFCCC COP26)<\/strong>, India announced Mission LiFE, to bring individual behaviors at the forefront of the global climate action narrative.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The mission envisions replacing the prevalent <strong>\u2018use-and-dispose<\/strong>\u2019 economy with a circular economy, which would be defined by mindful and deliberate utilization.\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In India, the <strong>Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change<\/strong>, GoI (MoEF&amp;CC) is the nodal Ministry for national level coordination and implementation of Mission Life.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Approach of Mission LiFE<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Focus on Individual Behaviors:<\/strong> Make life a mass movement (Jan Andolan) by focusing on behaviors and attitudes of individuals and communities.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Co-create Globally:<\/strong> Crowdsource empirical and scalable ideas from the best minds of the world, through top universities, think tanks and international organizations.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Leverage Local Cultures:<\/strong> Leverage climate-friendly social norms, beliefs and daily household practices of different cultures worldwide to drive the campaign.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>National Action Plan on Climate Change (NAPCC)<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The NAPCC is India\u2019s comprehensive policy framework for addressing climate change, launched in <strong>2008.<\/strong> It currently comprises eight core missions:\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>National Solar Mission<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>National Mission for Enhanced Energy Efficiency<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>National Mission on Sustainable Habitat<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>National Water Mission<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>National Mission for Sustaining the Himalayan Ecosystem<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>National Mission for a Green India<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>National Mission for Sustainable Agriculture<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>National Mission on Strategic Knowledge for Climate Change<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Need for Integration of the missions<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Quantifiable Action:<\/strong> It will help measure the role of individuals and businesses in climate mitigation and adaptation.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Amplifying Awareness:<\/strong> Mass campaigns under NAPCC can broaden the outreach of Mission LiFE.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Behavioural Transformation: <\/strong>It will focus on low-cost, high-impact lifestyle changes, e.g., optimal use of energy, waste reduction, and sustainable consumption.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Bridging the Gap:<\/strong> Tackles the common problem of awareness not translating into action.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Challenges in Implementation<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Self-driven Model: <\/strong>Unlike subsidy-based schemes like rooftop solar, Mission LiFE requires voluntary and intrinsic motivation.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Lack of Measurement Tools:<\/strong> Tracking impact and progress of lifestyle-based interventions remains a challenge.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Limited Climate Literacy: <\/strong>A significant portion of the population still lacks basic understanding of climate change, leading to a disconnect between individual actions and their environmental impact.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Way Ahead<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Policy Synergy:<\/strong> Align with schemes like Ujjwala, FAME, National Electric Mobility Mission, etc., for greater synergy.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Budgetary Allocation: <\/strong>Ensure adequate funding and investment to scale up behavioural campaigns.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Awareness to Action:<\/strong> Launch targeted campaigns offering practical \u201cto-do\u201d lists for households and businesses.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Concluding remarks<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Merging Mission LiFE into the NAPCC can add a powerful, people-centric dimension to India\u2019s climate response.\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>While the transition to sustainable behaviour is a long-term process, institutional support, monitoring
