resources at a <strong>depth of 6,000 metres<\/strong> using the indigenously <strong>developed submersible \u2018Matsya\u2019.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>About Samudrayaan Mission<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The Samudrayaan Mission is part of the <strong>manned Deep Ocean Mission.<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>It would have<strong> MATSYA 6000<\/strong>,\u00a0 a indigenously designed 4th generation manned submersible vehicle capable of carrying three people to a depth of 6,000 meters.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>It is being developed by <strong>National Institute of Ocean Technology (Chennai).<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>MATSYA 6000 has an operational endurance of <strong>12 hours and an emergency endurance of 96 hours.<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>India&#8217;s research vessel<strong> Sagar Nidhi <\/strong>will be used to deploy and recover the <strong>MATSYA 6000.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Significance of the Mission<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Scientific Research:<\/strong> Enables collection of deep-sea samples, critical for understanding marine biodiversity, geology, and chemistry.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Resource Exploration:<\/strong> Potential for assessment of living (marine biodiversity) and non-living resources (minerals, polymetallic nodules).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Technology Demonstration:<\/strong> Showcases indigenous capability in high-pressure deep-sea engineering.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Tourism Potential:<\/strong> May lay foundation for future deep-sea tourism.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Strategic Capability:<\/strong> Enhances India\u2019s presence in global ocean research and resource diplomacy.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>League of Nations: <\/strong>With this mission, India will join a select group of nations (the US, Russia, France, Japan, and China) that have the technology and capabilities for manned deep-sea exploration.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>About Deep Ocean Mission (DOM)<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The<strong> Deep Ocean Mission (DOM) was launched by the Ministry of Earth Sciences in 2021<\/strong>, and aims to explore and harness deep-sea resources in a sustainable and technologically advanced manner.\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>With a \u20b94,077 crore outlay over five years, DOM supports India\u2019s Blue Economy and aligns with SDG-14 (Life Below Water).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The mission is being spearheaded by the <strong>National Institute of Ocean Technology (NIOT) and comprises six components:<\/strong>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Manned Submersible Development (Samudrayaan).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Deep-sea Biodiversity Exploration<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Mining Polymetallic Nodules<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Ocean Climate Advisory Services\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Marine Station for Ocean Biology to promote research<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Advanced Ocean Observation Systems using underwater sensors and
