lower the prices of prescription drugs describing the move as the <strong>\u201cmost favored nation\u2019s policy.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Most Favoured Status (MFN)<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Aim: <\/strong>The MFN principle was designed<strong> to prevent countries from giving different treatment to one partner over the other.<\/strong>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Each member treats all the other members equally as \u201cmost-favoured\u201d trading partners.\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If a country improves the benefits that it gives to one trading partner, it has to give the same \u201cbest\u201d treatment to all the other World Trade Organization (WTO) members so<strong> that they all remain \u201cmost-favoured\u201d.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Principle: <\/strong>It seeks to <strong>replace the frictions and distortions <\/strong>of power-based (bilateral) policies with the guarantees of a rules-based framework where trading rights do not depend on the individual participants\u2019 economic or political clout.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Countries outside the WTO:<\/strong> Countries such as Russia, Iran, North Korea, Syria and Belarus are not a part of WTO &amp; WTO members can impose whatever trade measures they wish without flouting global trading rules.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Exceptions:<\/strong> There can be exceptions to allow for preferential treatment of developing countries, regional free trade areas and customs MFN treatment,<\/strong> it does formally allow the members to increase import tariffs or impose quotas on goods, or even ban them.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In 2019 India suspended Pakistan\u2019s<strong> MFN status <\/strong>following Pakistan\u2019s terror attack on Pulwama in Jammu &amp; Kashmir.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>What does losing MFN status mean?<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Revoking MFN status sends a strong signal that the member countries do not consider the losing country an economic partner.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Members can increase import tariffs or impose quotas on goods, or even ban them, and to restrict services out of the country.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<figure
