width:534px;height:auto\" srcset=\"https:\/\/wp-images.nextias.com\/cdn-cgi\/image\/format=auto\/ca\/uploads\/2025\/04\/Green-Hydrogen-Production-1024x532.png 1024w, https:\/\/wp-images.nextias.com\/cdn-cgi\/image\/format=auto\/ca\/uploads\/2025\/04\/Green-Hydrogen-Production-300x156.png 300w, https:\/\/wp-images.nextias.com\/cdn-cgi\/image\/format=auto\/ca\/uploads\/2025\/04\/Green-Hydrogen-Production-768x399.png 768w, https:\/\/wp-images.nextias.com\/cdn-cgi\/image\/format=auto\/ca\/uploads\/2025\/04\/Green-Hydrogen-Production.png 1400w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>What is Green Hydrogen?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Green Hydrogen: <\/strong>The hydrogen produced via <strong>electrolysis<\/strong>, the splitting of water into hydrogen and oxygen with electricity generated from renewable energy sources such as solar or wind, is known as Green hydrogen.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>MNRE defines<\/strong> Green Hydrogen as having a well-to-gate emission (i.e., including water treatment, electrolysis, gas purification, drying and compression of hydrogen) of<strong> not more than 2 kg CO2 equivalent \/ kg H2.<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Gujarat&#8217;s Kandla port <\/strong>is the first in India to have an operational Green Hydrogen plant using indigenous Electrolysers.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Challenges<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Risks associated with the transportation:<\/strong> Hydrogen in gaseous form is highly inflammable and difficult to transport, thereby making safety a primary concern.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>High Production Costs:<\/strong> The <strong>levelized cost of electricity (LCOE) and electrolyzer costs<\/strong> are major factors driving up the overall production costs.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Disparity in Production Costs:<\/strong> A substantial disparity between <strong>green hydrogen production costs ($5.30- $6.70 per kg)<\/strong> and traditional grey\/blue hydrogen production costs ($1.9-$2.4 per kg).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Technological Readiness: <\/strong>The adoption rates and risk factors associated with futuristic technologies pose challenges for financing and scaling up production.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-table\"><table class=\"has-background\" style=\"background-color:#fff2cc\"><tbody><tr><td><strong>National Green Hydrogen Mission<\/strong><br>&#8211; The mission was launched in <strong>2023<\/strong> with an outlay of <strong>Rs. 19,744 crores.<\/strong><br>&#8211; It aims to make India a Global Hub for production, utilization and export of Green Hydrogen and its derivatives.<br>&#8211;
