attended the <strong>6th <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nextias.com\/ca\/editorial-analysis\/02-04-2025\/bimstec-summit-india-bay-of-bengal\"><strong>BIMSTEC<\/strong> <\/a>(Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation) Summit, hosted by Thailand, which is the current chair.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>About<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Theme:<\/strong> <strong>&#8220;BIMSTEC: Prosperous, Resilient, and Open&#8221;<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Focus on<\/strong> shared growth amid global uncertainties.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>The BIMSTEC Summit <\/strong>is the first in-person meeting <strong>in seven years<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The <strong>chairmanship <\/strong>of the regional grouping was <strong>handed over to Bangladesh.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>India-led Initiatives:<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Prime Minister Narendra Modi<strong> proposed a 21-point action plan.<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Mitigation and Disaster Management:\u00a0<\/strong>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Establishing the BIMSTEC Centre of Excellence for Disaster Management in India to cooperate in disaster management, relief and rehabilitation.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Fourth joint exercises between BIMSTEC Disaster Management Authorities to be held in India this year.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>BODHI Program for skilling youth:<\/strong> BODHI [BIMSTEC for Organized Development of Human Resource Infrastructure] under which training and scholarships would be provided to professionals, students, researchers, diplomats and others.\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>300 youths from BIMSTEC countries<\/strong> in India every year.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>To Strengthen people-to-people linkages:<\/strong> India to host BIMSTEC Athletics Meet (this year).\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>First BIMSTEC Games in 2027<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>BIMSTEC Traditional Music Festival.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Youth-focused initiatives: <\/strong>Young Leaders\u2019 Summit, Hackathon, Young Professional Visitors program.\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Pilot study on Digital Public Infrastructure, cancer care capacity building.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Proposal for BIMSTEC Chamber of Commerce and Business Summit.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Proposed establishing connectivity<\/strong> between <strong>India\u2019s Unified Payments Interface (UPI) and the payment systems of BIMSTEC member states<\/strong>.\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Such integration would bring substantial benefits across trade, industry and tourism, enhancing economic activity at all levels.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Space Sector:<\/strong> Build nano-satellites for the BIMSTEC member nations and also explore the setting up of ground stations and promote the use of remote sensing data.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Sustainable Maritime Transport Centre: <\/strong>Proposed the establishment of a Sustainable Maritime Transport Centre in India to enhance coordination in capacity building, research, innovation and maritime policies.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Summit Outcomes:<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>BIMSTEC Bangkok Vision 2030: <\/strong>It\u2019s the first long-term plan to make BIMSTEC more prosperous, strong, and open by the year 2030.\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The vision focuses on improving trade, transport links, and people\u2019s safety and well-being<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Rules of Procedure for BIMSTEC: <\/strong>This sets clear rules for how BIMSTEC will work, helping the group to function more smoothly and efficiently.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Report by the BIMSTEC Eminent Persons\u2019 Group<\/strong>: This report gives helpful suggestions for how BIMSTEC should move forward, in line with the 2030 vision.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Agreement on Maritime Transport Cooperation<\/strong>: A new agreement was signed to improve sea transport between South and Southeast Asia.\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>This will help reduce shipping costs, make trade faster, and make it easier for goods and people to move across the region<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>About <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nextias.com\/ca\/editorial-analysis\/02-04-2025\/bimstec-summit-india-bay-of-bengal\"><strong><u>BIMSTEC<\/u><\/strong><\/a><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>It is a regional cooperation organization formed in <strong>1997 <\/strong>with the signing of the <strong>Bangkok Declaration.<\/strong>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>It unites South and <strong>Southeast Asian nations bordering the Bay of Bengal.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Founding Members (1997): <\/strong>Bangladesh, India, Sri Lanka, Thailand.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Current Members:<\/strong> It comprises seven member states, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Myanmar, Nepal, Sri Lanka, and Thailand.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Objective:<\/strong> To help countries in their economic growth, to support social development, and to encourage development in other areas, like science, technology
