India Strategy to strengthen trade, economic, and political ties.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>&nbsp;The 2020 strategy paper,<strong> \u201cIndia-NZ 2025 \u2013 Investing in the Relationship,\u201d <\/strong>aims to build a long-term strategic relationship with India.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Bilateral Trade (2023-24):<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>New Zealand&nbsp; exported goods\/services worth US$ 0.84 billion to India and imported US$ 0.91 billion, with total trade valued at US$ 1.75 billion.\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>India\u2019s imports: Wool, Iron &amp; Steel, Fruit &amp; Nuts, Aluminium.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>India\u2019s exports: Pharmaceuticals, Mechanical Machinery, Made-up Textile Articles, Pearls, Precious Stones &amp; Metals.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Defence Cooperation<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Defence ties reflect overall friendly relations.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>INSV Tarini\u2019s port call in New Zealand (Dec 2024-Jan 2025).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>INS Sahyadri and INS Kolkata visited New Zealand (Aug-Sept 2023).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>India contributes staff to Combined Task Force 150, led by RNZ Navy from January 2025.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Customs Cooperation<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>In August 2024, India and NZ signed a Customs Cooperative Arrangement to boost trade and fight organized crime.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>International Solar Alliance<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>New Zealand ratified the International Solar Alliance during the President&#8217;s state visit to Wellington (Aug 2024).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Education:<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>India is the 2nd largest source of international students in NZ, with approximately 8,000 Indian students in various fields (IT, hospitality, science, engineering, architecture).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>People-to-People and Cultural Ties:<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>There is strong cultural cooperation due to a large Indian diaspora in NZ.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Indian festivals like Diwali, Holi, Baisakhi, Onam are celebrated with enthusiasm.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Schools in NZ teach Indian traditional arts (Kathak, Bharatnatyam), Bollywood dance, and languages like Hindi.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Sports:<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Close sporting links, especially in cricket, hockey, and mountaineering.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Sir Edmund Hillary, a NZ hero, is iconic in India for his mountaineering achievements.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Latest Developments&nbsp;<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The two countries started negotiating the Comprehensive Economic Cooperation Agreement (CECA) in April 2010 to promote trade in goods, services, and investment.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Talks were stalled in 2015 after nine rounds of discussions.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The aim of the FTA negotiations is to achieve balanced outcomes, enhance supply chain integration, and improve market access.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Challenges<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>India seeks better access for skilled professionals and the IT\/services sector, while New Zealand resists offering work opportunities like those for Australia and China.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>India withdrew from RCEP in 2019 over market access concerns.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>&nbsp;New Zealand has a low average import tariff (2.3%), while India\u2019s is higher (17.8%), requiring significant reductions.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>New Zealand also seeks greater access to India\u2019s protected dairy market.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Conclusion&nbsp;and Way Forward&nbsp;<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>India and New Zealand share a strong and evolving relationship based on mutual respect and shared goals.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>With ongoing efforts to strengthen ties in trade, defense, education, and cultural exchanges, their partnership is set to grow, ensuring a more resilient and prosperous future for both nations.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Source&nbsp;
