The space sector\u2019s value is expected t<strong>o rise from $8 billion to $44 billion<\/strong>, marking India as a key global space player.<br>&#8211; <strong>Vital Missions: <\/strong>Trials for India\u2019s first human spaceflight, <strong>Gaganyaan Mission, <\/strong>will begin by the end of <strong>2025<\/strong>.<br>1. India aims to send an astronaut to the Moon by 2040 and establish the <strong>Bharat Antariksh Station by 2035.<\/strong><\/td><\/tr><\/tbody><\/table><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Use of Space Technology in Governance<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Disaster Management and Response: National Remote Sensing Centre (NRSC) <\/strong>provides satellite data that helps in identifying flood-affected areas, mapping damage, and planning rehabilitation.\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>The Indian National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA)<\/strong> uses it for disaster relief operations.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Agriculture and Rural Development: FASAL (Forecasting Agricultural output using Space, Agrometeorology, and Land-based observations)<\/strong> uses satellite data to predict crop yields, helping farmers make informed decisions.\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Soil Health Management and irrigation management<\/strong> are optimized using remote sensing technologies.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Efficient Land Management:<\/strong> Initiatives like <strong>\u201cSwamitva Yojana\u201d<\/strong> use satellite mapping for land record management.\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>This initiative simplifies land verification and promotes transparency in land ownership.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Environmental Monitoring: Bhuvan <\/strong>an Indian web-based application developed by <strong>ISRO <\/strong>provides satellite data for various environmental and land-use applications.\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Satellites like the <strong>Oceansat series<\/strong> provide data on sea surface temperatures, sea level rise, and coastal erosion.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Security and Defense:<\/strong> Satellites help<strong> <\/strong>in remote sensing for border surveillance.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Administrative Efficiency: <\/strong>Satellite data helps in the implementation of the Digital India initiative by enabling access to e-governance services.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Challenges<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>High Costs:<\/strong> The development, maintenance, and launch of satellites are expensive.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Technical and Infrastructure Gaps: <\/strong>Lack of adequate ground infrastructure, technical expertise, and trained personnel in remote areas.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Data Interpretation and Accuracy:<\/strong> Space-based data requires accurate interpretation and analysis, and errors in data processing can lead to wrong decisions in governance.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Privacy Concerns:<\/strong> Increased surveillance and monitoring through space technology raise privacy and security concerns among citizens.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Environmental Impact:<\/strong> Increased space missions and satellite launches can contribute to space debris and environmental pollution.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Way Ahead<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Develop and upgrade ground infrastructure,<\/strong> data centers, and communication
