{"id":37847,"date":"2025-02-22T19:19:14","date_gmt":"2025-02-22T13:49:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.nextias.com\/ca\/?p=37847"},"modified":"2025-03-22T15:54:28","modified_gmt":"2025-03-22T10:24:28","slug":"india-china-worked-hard-to-protect-g-20","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.nextias.com\/ca\/current-affairs\/22-02-2025\/india-china-worked-hard-to-protect-g-20","title":{"rendered":"India, China Worked hard to Protect G-20"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>Syllabus: GS 2\/IR&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>In News<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The External Affairs Minister of India emphasized that India and China worked hard to <strong>preserve the <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nextias.com\/ca\/current-affairs\/28-12-2022\/indias-g20-presidency-challenges-opportunities\"><strong>G-20<\/strong><\/a><strong> as an institution amid global polarization.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>About<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>India and China discussed bilateral developments, particularly the situation on the Line of Actual Control (LAC).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The two leaders reviewed bilateral relations, discussing the resumption of the Kailash Mansarovar pilgrimage, trans-border river talks, flight connectivity, and facilitating travel.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Inception of the G20<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>It was <strong>founded in 1999<\/strong> after the <strong>Asian financial crisis (1997-1998<\/strong>) as an informal forum for <strong>Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors.<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Initially focused on macroeconomic issues, but has expanded to include trade, climate change, health, agriculture, energy, and anti-corruption.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Membership: <\/strong>Comprises 19 countries: Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, South Korea, Mexico, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Turkey, UK, and US.\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Also includes<strong> two regional bodies:<\/strong> the European Union (EU) and African Union (AU).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Presidency: <\/strong>The G20 does not have a permanent secretariat.\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The G20 Presidency rotates annually, and each country within a regional group takes a turn hosting the Presidency.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-table\"><table class=\"has-background\" style=\"background-color:#fff2cc\"><tbody><tr><td><strong>Do you know ?<\/strong><br>&#8211; The G20 brings together the countries with the <strong>largest economies in the world.<\/strong> The member states <strong>meet annually <\/strong>to discuss economic, political and social initiatives.<br>&#8211; Before the African Union (AU) joined, the G20 accounted for approximately <strong>85% of global GDP, 75% of global trade<\/strong>, and <strong>two-thirds of the world\u2019s population.<\/strong><\/td><\/tr><\/tbody><\/table><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Role of India in G20\u00a0<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The G20 Leaders&#8217;
