Role of Technology in Agriculture<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Context<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The Union Agriculture Minister has announced plans to upgrade the <strong>National Agricultural Market (e-NAM)<\/strong> to <strong>e-NAM 2.0<\/strong> to resolve logistical hurdles in <strong>inter-state and inter-mandi trade<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>About e-NAM (2016)<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>e-NAM is a <strong>pan-India electronic trading platform<\/strong> that connects <strong>Agricultural Produce Market Committee (APMC) mandis<\/strong> to create a <strong>unified national market<\/strong> for agricultural commodities.\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Implemented by the <strong>Small Farmers Agribusiness Consortium (SFAC)<\/strong> under the <strong>Ministry of Agriculture &amp; Farmers\u2019 Welfare (MoA&amp;FW)<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Provides <strong>digital services<\/strong> to traders, farmers, <strong>Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs), and Mandis<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>As of <strong>December 31, 2024<\/strong>, <strong>1.79 crore farmers<\/strong> and <strong>2.63 lakh traders<\/strong> have registered on the platform.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Key Challenges in e-NAM<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Despite integrating <strong>1,361 mandis<\/strong> across <strong>23 states and 4 Union Territories<\/strong>, and facilitating <strong>\u20b92.79 lakh crore worth of trade<\/strong>, several challenges remain:\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Logistical Issues:<\/strong> Inefficient transportation causes high transit time and limits distribution efficiency.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Inadequate Warehousing &amp; Storage:<\/strong> Lack of proper storage facilities leads to post-harvest losses.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Limited Digital Literacy &amp; Internet Access:<\/strong> Many farmers struggle with online platforms.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Interstate Trade Barriers:<\/strong> Variations in state APMC laws hinder smooth trade.\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Different state tax and compliance norms create complexity.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Key Features of e-NAM 2.0<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Integrated Logistics and Transportation Support: Unified Logistics Interface Platform (ULIP)<\/strong> integration for <strong>real-time tracking of produce<\/strong>.\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Optimized freight options<\/strong> to <strong>reduce transit times<\/strong> and improve delivery efficiency.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Expanded Warehousing and Cold Storage Infrastructure: <\/strong>The <strong>Agricultural Infrastructure Fund (AIF)<\/strong> will offer <strong>subsidized loans<\/strong> to promote private investment in storage facilities.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>AI-Driven Price Discovery &amp;
