{"id":36478,"date":"2025-01-30T19:23:13","date_gmt":"2025-01-30T13:53:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.nextias.com\/ca\/?p=36478"},"modified":"2025-01-30T19:23:14","modified_gmt":"2025-01-30T13:53:14","slug":"isro-100-th-launch-from-sriharikota","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.nextias.com\/ca\/current-affairs\/30-01-2025\/isro-100-th-launch-from-sriharikota","title":{"rendered":"ISRO\u2019s 100th Launch from Sriharikota"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>Syllabus: GS3\/Science and Technology<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Context<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) launched its historic <strong>100th launch<\/strong> from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>About<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>GSLV F15 carried the NVS-02 navigation satellite<\/strong> placing it into a Geosynchronous Transfer Orbit.\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The NVS-02 is the <strong>second satellite in the NVS series, <\/strong>and <strong>part of India\u2019s Navigation with Indian Constellation (NavIC).<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>It is designed to <strong>provide accurate positioning services across India.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>GSLV-F15<\/strong> is the<strong> 17th flight of India\u2019s Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle <\/strong>(GSLV) and <strong>11th flight with Indigenous Cryo stage.<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Over these <strong>100 launches ISRO has lifted 548 satellites to orbit<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-table\"><table class=\"has-background\" style=\"background-color:#fff2cc\"><tbody><tr><td><strong>Geosynchronous Transfer Orbit<\/strong><br>&#8211; The GTO allows satellites to be positioned into <strong>geostationary orbits<\/strong>, where they can maintain a<strong> fixed position relative to the Earth&#8217;s surface.<\/strong>\u00a0<br>&#8211; This is crucial for <strong>communication and weather satellites<\/strong> that need to monitor specific areas continuously.<\/td><\/tr><\/tbody><\/table><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>NVS Series<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>These are<strong> five second-generation NavIC satellites<\/strong> \u2014 <strong>NVS-01 to NVS-05 <\/strong>and are <strong>planned to enhance the existing constellation.\u00a0<\/strong>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>These satellites incorporate <strong>L1 band communication<\/strong>, which <strong>broadens NavIC&#8217;s compatibility and usability for diverse applications.\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>NVS-01,<\/strong> the first of the second-generation satellites, was launched in <strong>2023.\u00a0<\/strong>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>For the first time, an indigenous <strong>atomic clock was flown in NVS-01.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>NVS-02 <\/strong>will help improve NavIC&#8217;s services, which are used for navigation, precision agriculture, emergency services, fleet management, and even mobile device location services.\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>It also has a precise atomic clock called the <strong>Rubidium Atomic Frequency Standard (RAFS)<\/strong> for accurate timekeeping.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>NavIC<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>It is a<strong> regional navigation satellite system<\/strong> established by <strong>Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO).\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>NavIC was erstwhile known as<strong> Indian Regional Navigation Satellite System (IRNSS).<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>NavIC is designed with a constellation of <strong>7 satellites<\/strong> and a network of ground stations operating 24 x 7.\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Three satellites <\/strong>of the constellation are placed in<strong> geostationary orbit<\/strong> and <strong>four satellites<\/strong> are placed in <strong>inclined geosynchronous orbit.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full is-resized\"><img data-dominant-color=\"445c64\" data-has-transparency=\"false\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"598\" height=\"469\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-images.nextias.com\/cdn-cgi\/image\/format=auto\/ca\/uploads\/2025\/01\/satellites.webp\" alt=\"regional navigation satellite system\" class=\"not-transparent wp-image-36479\" style=\"--dominant-color: #445c64;
