class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Context<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The Department of Telecommunications launched the vision document for the <strong>National Broadband Mission (NBM) 2.0<\/strong>.\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>It aims to build upon the foundation laid by <strong>NBM 1.0 (2019-2024).<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Broadband Connectivity in India<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>In <strong>2023<\/strong>, India had<strong> 83.22 crore <\/strong>broadband connections, with 79.98 crore being wireless and 3.23 crore being wireline.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>India witnessed a <strong>200% increase<\/strong> in internet subscriptions in <strong>rural areas<\/strong> and a <strong>158% increase<\/strong> in <strong>urban areas<\/strong> between <strong>2015 and 2021.<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The\u00a0 <strong>NBM 1.0 <\/strong>accelerated growth in digital infrastructure, especially in rural areas, bridging the digital divide.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Broadband connection types\u00a0<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Wired broadband:<\/strong> Broadband delivered through optical fiber cables.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Wireless broadband:<\/strong> Broadband delivered through radio links.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Digital Subscriber Line (DSL):<\/strong> Broadband delivered through copper lines.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>NBM 2.0: Vision and Objectives<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The new phase of the National Broadband Mission builds on NBM 1.0 and sets ambitious goals for 2030 to ensure affordable and reliable broadband access across India.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Key Objectives:<\/strong>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Expand Optical Fiber Connectivity: <\/strong>Extend Optical Fiber Cable (OFC) to 2.70 lakh villages by 2030, from around 50,000 villages currently.\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Maintain 95% uptime for OFC networks.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Anchor Institution Connectivity:<\/strong> Provide broadband to 90% of anchor institutions such as schools, PHCs, Anganwadi Centers, and Panchayat offices.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Enhanced Broadband Speeds:<\/strong> Increase the national average fixed broadband download speed to a minimum of 100 Mbps by 2030.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>5G Rollout and 6G Preparedness:<\/strong> Facilitate the nationwide rollout of 5G networks while laying the groundwork for future 6G technologies.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Leverage Power Sector Infrastructure: <\/strong>Utilize Optical Ground Wire (OPGW) from the power sector to boost connectivity, particularly for critical situations like disasters, wars, and emergencies.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>NBM 2.0 Impact<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Digital Inclusion: <\/strong>Bridge the digital divide, especially in rural and underserved areas, ensuring equitable access to digital resources.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Education and Healthcare: <\/strong>Broadband in schools and healthcare centers will promote e-learning, telemedicine, and other digital services.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Economic Growth:<\/strong> Infrastructure development will generate employment and stimulate economic activity in both rural and urban regions.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Disaster Management: <\/strong>Leveraging OPGW infrastructure will enhance communication resilience during natural disasters and emergencies.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Technological Advancement:<\/strong> Adoption of 5G and 6G networks will position India as a leader in global digital innovation.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Way Ahead<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Affordable Internet Services: <\/strong>Ensure broadband remains affordable to increase adoption across all socio-economic groups.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Strengthen Collaboration: <\/strong>Partner with private sector players to fast-track digital infrastructure development.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Invest in Digital Literacy:<\/strong> Launch initiatives to improve digital literacy, enabling citizens to leverage connectivity effectively.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Policy Support:<\/strong> Implement supportive policies to streamline processes, such as Right of Way (RoW) approvals, to minimize
