It aims to provide accessible and affordable healthcare to the economically disadvantaged sections of society.\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>National Health Authority (NHA)<\/strong> is the implementing agency of the scheme <strong>under the<\/strong><strong> MoH&amp;FW<\/strong><strong>.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Objectives: <\/strong>To reduce the financial burden on poor and vulnerable groups arising out of catastrophic hospital episodes.\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>To ensure access to quality health services.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>To provide a health cover of <strong>up to \u20b95 lakh per family per year for secondary and tertiary care hospitalization<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Key Features:&nbsp;<\/strong>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Coverage<\/strong>: Over 10.74 crore poor and vulnerable families (approximately 50 crore beneficiaries) identified based on the Socio-Economic Caste Census (SECC) data.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Cashless and Paperless:<\/strong> Beneficiaries can avail of cashless and paperless access to health services at the point of service in any empaneled hospital, both public and private, across India.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Comprehensive Benefits: <\/strong>Covers pre- and post-hospitalization expenses, diagnostics, medicines, and nearly 1,400 medical procedures, including major surgeries.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Funding Pattern:<\/strong> 60:40 cost-sharing between the Union Government and States.\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>90:10 for North Eastern States and Himalayan States (Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Jammu &amp; Kashmir (UT)).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>100% central funding for Union Territories (UTs) without a legislature.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Recent Developments: <\/strong>In 2024, the Union Cabinet approved the expansion of Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB PM-JAY) to <strong>cover all senior citizens aged 70 and above<\/strong>, irrespective of their income status.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Benefits and Impact:<\/strong> Since its inception, AB PM-JAY has achieved:\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>8.19 crore hospital admissions, with \u20b91.13 lakh crore spent on healthcare.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Coverage for 45% of India\u2019s population.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Reduced out-of-pocket healthcare expenses for the poor.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Increased access to both public and private healthcare facilities.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Why States are Reluctant to Join PM-JAY?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Financial Concerns:<\/strong> States are worried about the financial burden of implementing the scheme.
