{"id":34983,"date":"2025-01-07T18:39:58","date_gmt":"2025-01-07T13:09:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.nextias.com\/ca\/?p=34983"},"modified":"2025-01-07T18:40:00","modified_gmt":"2025-01-07T13:10:00","slug":"news-in-short-7-january-2025","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.nextias.com\/ca\/current-affairs\/07-01-2025\/news-in-short-7-january-2025","title":{"rendered":"News In Short 07-1-2025"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-center\"><strong>Konda Reddi Tribe<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Syllabus: GS1\/Tribal Groups<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Context<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Some youth of the Konda Reddi tribe in Andhra Pradesh, have begun to prefer entering into live-in relationships with the partners of their choice.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>About<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The Konda Reddi Tribe is a<strong> Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Group <\/strong>inhabiting the Papikonda hill range in the <strong>Godavari region of Andhra Pradesh.<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Their mother tongue is <strong>Telugu<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Konda Reddies have their own institution of social control called <strong>\u2018Kula Panchayat\u2019<\/strong>.\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Each village has a traditional headman called \u2018<strong>Pedda Kapu\u2019<\/strong>.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Group<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>In 1973, the <strong>Dhebar Commission<\/strong> set up a separate category for <strong>Primitive Tribal Groups (PTGs)<\/strong>.\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>In 1975,<\/strong> the Union identified 52 tribal groups as PTGs.\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>In 1993,<\/strong> 23 more groups were added to the list. Later, in 2006, these groups were named PVTGs.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>PVTGs are a<strong> more vulnerable group<\/strong> among tribal groups in India.\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>These groups have primitive traits, geographical isolation, low literacy, zero to negative population growth rate and backwardness.\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Moreover, they are largely dependent upon hunting for food and a pre-agriculture level of technology.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>It is said that more developed tribal groups take advantage of the development funds, and thus, there is a <strong>need to direct more funds towards PVTGs.<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>According to the 2011 Census, <strong>Odisha<\/strong> has the largest population of PVTGs followed by Madhya Pradesh.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Source: <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thehindu.com\/news\/national\/andhra-pradesh\/this-tribe-in-andhra-pradesh-prefers-to-live-and-let-live-in\/article69054131.ece\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>TH<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-center\"><strong>University Grants Commission (UGC) Draft Regulations 2025<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Syllabus: GS2\/ Education<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Context<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The UGC has announced draft regulations aimed at broadening the eligibility criteria for <strong>Vice Chancellors and academic roles in universities, <\/strong>aligned with the<strong> National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>What are the Draft Guidelines?<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Changes in Vice Chancellor Recruitment: <\/strong>Candidates from fields like public administration, public policy, industry, and public sector undertakings are now eligible for V-C appointments.\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>They must have a minimum of<strong> 10 years<\/strong> of senior-level experience and significant academic contributions.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Selection Committee Composition: <\/strong>The committee will now consist of three members: nominees from the Visitor or Chancellor, the UGC, and the university&#8217;s apex body.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Relaxed NET Requirement:<\/strong> Candidates with a Master of Engineering (ME) or Master of Technology (MTech) with a minimum of <strong>55% marks<\/strong> can apply for Assistant Professor roles without the need to qualify for the UGC National Eligibility Test (NET).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Focus on Specialisation:<\/strong> Faculty selection will now align more closely with candidates&#8217;
