{"id":34745,"date":"2025-01-03T18:28:18","date_gmt":"2025-01-03T12:58:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.nextias.com\/ca\/?p=34745"},"modified":"2025-01-03T18:28:20","modified_gmt":"2025-01-03T12:58:20","slug":"appointment-of-governor-of-kerala","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.nextias.com\/ca\/current-affairs\/03-01-2025\/appointment-of-governor-of-kerala","title":{"rendered":"Appointment of Governor of Kerala"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>Syllabus: GS2\/Polity\/Governance<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Context<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar took the oath as the 23rd Governor of Kerala.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>About Governor<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Eligibility: <\/strong>Citizen of India and has completed the age of thirty-five years.\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Not a member of the Parliament and State Legislature.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Shall not hold any other office of profit.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Appointment of Governor:<\/strong> The Governor of a State shall be appointed by the President.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Term of office of Governor:<\/strong> Five years.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Constitutional Provisions: <\/strong>The office of the Governor is defined in <strong>Articles 153 to 162 of the Indian Constitution.<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Executive Role: <\/strong>The Governor is the head of the state executive, and executive authority is vested in them.\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>They appoint the Chief Minister and other ministers, who are responsible to the state legislature.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Governors have the power to dissolve the state legislature (Vidhan Sabha) and call for elections.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Legislative Role:<\/strong> The Governor summons, and dissolves the state legislature and can address the state legislature at the beginning of its sessions.\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>He has the power to reserve certain bills passed by the state legislature for the President\u2019s approval.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Judicial Role: <\/strong>The Governor can grant pardons, reprieves, respites, or remissions of punishment in some cases.
