{"id":32807,"date":"2024-11-27T17:45:10","date_gmt":"2024-11-27T12:15:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.nextias.com\/ca\/?p=32807"},"modified":"2024-11-27T17:45:12","modified_gmt":"2024-11-27T12:15:12","slug":"basic-animal-husbandry-statistics-2024","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.nextias.com\/ca\/current-affairs\/27-11-2024\/basic-animal-husbandry-statistics-2024","title":{"rendered":"Basic Animal Husbandry Statistics 2024"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>Syllabus: GS3\/ Agriculture<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Context<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The Union Minister of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry, and Dairying released the annual publication of \u2018Basic Animal Husbandry Statistics 2024\u2019 on the occasion of National Milk Day.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>What is Animal Husbandry?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Animal husbandry is the branch of agriculture concerned with the <strong>breeding, raising, and care of domesticated animals<\/strong> such as cattle, buffaloes, goats, sheep, pigs, and poultry.\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>It plays a critical role in ensuring food security through the production of <strong>milk, meat, eggs,<\/strong> and other animal-based products.\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In India Animal Husbandry contributes <strong>16%<\/strong> to the income of small farm households.\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>It provides employment<\/strong> to about<strong> 8.8 %<\/strong> of the population in India.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>BAHS- 2024: Key Findings<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>The Milk Production<\/strong> was 239.30 million tonnes in 2023-24, marking a 5.62% growth over the last decade and 3.78% increase over 2022-23.\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Top Producing States:<\/strong> Uttar Pradesh (16.21%), Rajasthan (14.51%) and Madhya Pradesh (8.91%).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>India remains the <strong>largest producer<\/strong> globally.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>The Egg Production was<\/strong> 142.77 billion eggs in 2023-24, achieving a 6.8% growth over the last decade and a 3.18% rise over 2022-23.\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Top Producing States:<\/strong> Andhra Pradesh (17.85%), Tamil Nadu (15.64%) and\u00a0 Telangana (12.88%).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>\u00a0<\/strong>India is<strong> ranked second<\/strong> worldwide.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Total Meat Production <\/strong>was 10.25 million tonnes in 2023-24, showing a 4.85% growth over the last decade and a 4.95% increase over 2022-23.\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Top Producing States:<\/strong> West Bengal (12.62%), Uttar Pradesh (12.29%) and\u00a0 Maharashtra (11.28%)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Total Wool Production<\/strong> in 2023-24, registered a<strong> 0.22% growth<\/strong> over the previous year.
