{"id":31990,"date":"2024-11-11T18:14:35","date_gmt":"2024-11-11T12:44:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.nextias.com\/ca\/?p=31990"},"modified":"2024-11-11T18:14:38","modified_gmt":"2024-11-11T12:44:38","slug":"5-years-of-kartarpur-sahib-corridor","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.nextias.com\/ca\/current-affairs\/11-11-2024\/5-years-of-kartarpur-sahib-corridor","title":{"rendered":"5 Years of Kartarpur Sahib Corridor"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>Syllabus: GS1\/Culture\/GS2\/IR<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>In News\u00a0<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nextias.com\/ca\/current-affairs\/23-08-2021\/place-in-news-kartarpur\"><strong>Kartarpur Sahib Corridor<\/strong><\/a><strong> <\/strong>between India and Pakistan marks its <strong>five-year anniversary.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>About Kartarpur Sahib Corridor<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Background<\/strong> : The corridor was initially proposed in early 1999 by the then Prime Ministers of India and Pakistan, Atal Bihari Vajpayee and Nawaz Sharif, as part of the <strong>Delhi\u2013Lahore Bus diplomacy initiative.<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Developments: <\/strong>Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the corridor on November 9, 2019, coinciding with the <strong>550th Prakash Purb of Guru Nanak Dev Ji<\/strong>.\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The corridor leads to Gurdwara Sri Kartarpur Sahib in Pakistan\u2019s Narowal district, where <strong>Guru Nanak Dev Ji spent his last 18 years.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full is-resized\"><img data-dominant-color=\"dfdedb\" data-has-transparency=\"false\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"700\" height=\"486\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-images.nextias.com\/cdn-cgi\/image\/format=auto\/ca\/uploads\/2024\/11\/Kartarpur-Sahib-Corridor-jpg.webp\" alt=\"Kartarpur-Sahib-Corridor\" class=\"not-transparent wp-image-31999\" style=\"--dominant-color: #dfdedb; width:502px;height:auto\" srcset=\"https:\/\/wp-images.nextias.com\/cdn-cgi\/image\/format=auto\/ca\/uploads\/2024\/11\/Kartarpur-Sahib-Corridor-jpg.webp 700w, https:\/\/wp-images.nextias.com\/cdn-cgi\/image\/format=auto\/ca\/uploads\/2024\/11\/Kartarpur-Sahib-Corridor-300x208.webp 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Features<\/strong>: It serves as a visa-free border crossing and religious corridor, linking the Gurdwara Darbar Sahib Kartarpur near Narowal in Pakistan to Gurdwara Dera Baba Nanak in Punjab&#8217;s Gurdaspur district in India.\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The gurdwara in Kartarpur is located on the <strong>bank of river Ravi in Pakistan.<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>India and Pakistan have agreed to extend the Kartarpur Sahib Corridor Agreement for an additional five years.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-table\"><table class=\"has-background\" style=\"background-color:#fff2cc\"><tbody><tr><td><strong>About Guru Nanak Dev (1469-1539)<\/strong><br>&#8211; He was born in a village, Talwandi Rai Bhoe, near Lahore (it was renamed later as Nankana Sahib).<br>&#8211; Guru Nanak Dev initiated inter-faith dialogue way back in the 16th century and had conversations with most of the religious denominations of his times.<br>&#8211; His written compositions were included in the Adi Granth compiled by Guru Arjan (1563-1606), the fifth Sikh guru.<br>1. This came to be known as Guru Granth Sahib after the additions made by the 10th guru Guru Gobind Singh (1666-1708).<br>2.
