Agni-5 can cover a range of even 8000 kms.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"list-style-type:disc\"><span style=\"font-size:12pt\">The missile can reach an exceptional Mach 24 speed and\u00a0 has a <\/span><span style=\"font-size:12pt\">very high degree of accuracy<\/span><span style=\"font-size:12pt\"> to hit targets.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-size:12pt\"><span style=\"font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",serif\"><strong>Significance<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type:disc\"><span style=\"font-size:12pt\">The <\/span><span style=\"font-size:12pt\"><strong>Agni-V project<\/strong><\/span><span style=\"font-size:12pt\"> is aimed at boosting <\/span><span style=\"font-size:12pt\"><strong>India&#8217;s nuclear deterrence <\/strong><\/span><span style=\"font-size:12pt\">against China which is known to have missiles like<\/span><span style=\"font-size:12pt\"><strong> Dongfeng-41 having ranges between 12,000-15,000 km.<\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"list-style-type:disc\"><span style=\"font-size:12pt\">Agni-V can bring almost the <\/span><span style=\"font-size:12pt\"><strong>entire Asia including the northernmost part of China<\/strong><\/span><span style=\"font-size:12pt\"> as well as some regions in Europe under its striking range.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-size:12pt\"><span style=\"font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",serif\"><strong>No First Use<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type:disc\"><span style=\"font-size:12pt\">The successful test of Agni-5, according to the Indian Defense Ministry, is in accordance with <\/span><span style=\"font-size:12pt\"><strong>India&#8217;s policy of having &#8220;credible minimum deterrence,&#8221;<\/strong><\/span><span style=\"font-size:12pt\"> which supports the <\/span><span style=\"font-size:12pt\"><strong>commitment to &#8220;No First Use.&#8221;\u00a0<\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"list-style-type:disc\"><span style=\"font-size:12pt\">This comes days after Indian and Chinese troops clashed in Tawang district of Arunachal Pradesh, an incident which became the topic of a heated debate in Indian Parliament.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-size:12pt\"><span style=\"font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",serif\"><strong>Agni Class of Missiles<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type:disc\"><span style=\"font-size:12pt\"><span style=\"font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",serif\"><span style=\"color:#000000\">They are the mainstay of <\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-size:12pt\"><span style=\"font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",serif\"><span style=\"color:#000000\"><strong>India\u2019s nuclear launch capability<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-size:12pt\"><span style=\"font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",serif\"><span style=\"color:#000000\">.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"list-style-type:disc\"><span style=\"font-size:12pt\"><span style=\"color:#000000\">The term <\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-size:12pt\"><span style=\"color:#000000\"><strong>Agni means &#8220;fire&#8221; in Sanskrit<\/strong><\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-size:12pt\"><span style=\"color:#000000\">, and its meaning is understood in the context of Agni being one of the <\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-size:12pt\"><span style=\"color:#000000\"><strong>Pancha Mahabhutas<\/strong><\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-size:12pt\"><span style=\"color:#000000\">, the five basic elements. Antiqua\",serif\">Nuclear Triad essentially has three <\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-size:12pt\"><span style=\"font-family:\"Book Antiqua\",serif\"><strong>major components-the strategic bombers, Inter Continental Ballistic Missiles (ICBMs) and Submarine Launched Ballistic Missiles (SLBMs) for the purpose of delivering a nuclear weapon.\u00a0<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"list-style-type:disc\"><span style=\"font-size:12pt\">The reason for having such <\/span><span style=\"font-size:12pt\"><strong>three branches capability is to significantly reduce the
