it has maintained case numbers below one per 10,000 people for two consecutive years, in line with WHO criteria for elimination certification.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Kala-azar<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Visceral leishmaniasis, commonly known as kala-azar, is a slow-progressing disease caused by the protozoan parasite <strong>Leishmania donovani<\/strong> in India.\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Leishmania parasites are <strong>transmitted by the bites of infected female phlebotomine sandflies<\/strong>, which feed on blood to produce eggs.\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>\u00a0These parasites can be sourced from around 70 animal species, including humans.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The term<strong> &#8220;kala-azar,&#8221;
