{"id":31024,"date":"2024-10-18T17:57:29","date_gmt":"2024-10-18T12:27:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.nextias.com\/ca\/?p=31024"},"modified":"2024-10-18T17:57:31","modified_gmt":"2024-10-18T12:27:31","slug":"samarth-scheme-for-capacity-building-in-textiles-sector-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.nextias.com\/ca\/current-affairs\/18-10-2024\/samarth-scheme-for-capacity-building-in-textiles-sector-2","title":{"rendered":"\u201cSamarth\u201d (Scheme for Capacity Building in Textiles Sector)"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>Syllabus: GS3\/ Economy<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Context<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The Union government extended the Samarth Scheme for<strong> two years<\/strong> (FY 2024-25 and 2025-26) with a budget of <strong>Rs. 495 Crore<\/strong> to train 3 lakh persons in textile-related skills.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Samarth Scheme<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Samarth is a demand-driven and placement-oriented umbrella<strong> skilling program<\/strong> of the <strong>Ministry of Textiles.<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Scheme aims to <\/strong>encourage and support the industry in creating jobs in the organized textile and related sectors, covering the entire value chain of textiles, excluding Spinning and Weaving.\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The scheme also <strong>provides upskilling\/reskilling programs <\/strong>to improve the productivity of existing workers in Apparel &amp; Garmenting segments.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Achievement:<\/strong> Under the Scheme, <strong>3.27 lakh<\/strong> (in which<strong> 88.3%<\/strong> is women) candidates have trained, of which<strong> 2.6 lakh (79.5%)<\/strong> have been employed.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-table\"><table class=\"has-background\" style=\"background-color:#fff2cc\"><tbody><tr><td><strong>Textile Industry of India<\/strong><br>&#8211; <strong>Share in Domestic Trade: <\/strong>The domestic apparel &amp; textile industry in India contributes approx. <strong>2.3 % to the country\u2019s GDP,<\/strong> <strong>13% <\/strong>to industrial production and<strong> 12%<\/strong> to exports.\u00a0<br>&#8211; <strong>Share in Global Trade: <\/strong>India has a<strong> 4% <\/strong>share of the global trade in textiles and apparel.<br>&#8211; <strong>Export: <\/strong>In FY22, India was the third largest textile exporter globally, enjoying a 5.4% share.<br>&#8211; <strong>Production of Raw Material: <\/strong>India is one of the largest producers of cotton and jute in the world.
