class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Context<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The government has approved the modified <strong>Pradhan Mantri Jaiv Indhan Vatavaran Anukool Fasal Awashesh Nivaran (PM-JI-VAN) Yojana<\/strong>.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>About<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The modified scheme extends the implementation timeline by f<strong>ive years, i.e., until 2028-29.<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>It now includes<strong> advanced biofuels produced from lignocellulosic feedstocks<\/strong>\u2013such as agricultural and forestry residues, industrial waste, synthesis (syn) gas, algae, etc.\u2013within its scope.\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>To promote multiple technologies and multiple feedstocks, preference would now be given to project proposals with new technologies and innovations in the sector.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Significance: <\/strong>The scheme aims to provide <strong>remunerative income to farmers for their agricultural residue<\/strong> and <strong>address environmental pollution.<\/strong>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The scheme also helps <strong>create local employment opportunities<\/strong> and contributes to <strong>India\u2019s energy security and self-reliance<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>It also supports the <strong>development of advanced biofuel technologies<\/strong> and promotes the Make in India Mission.\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>It also helps in achieving India\u2019s ambitious target for <strong>net-zero GHG emissions by 2070.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>About Pradhan Mantri JI-VAN scheme:<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>In 2019<\/strong>, Government had notified the \u201cPradhan Mantri JI-VAN (Jaiv Indhan- Vatavaran Anukool fasal awashesh Nivaran) Yojana\u201d.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>It aimed at providing<strong> financial support to integrated bio-ethanol projects<\/strong> for setting up<strong> Second Generation (2G) ethanol projects<\/strong> in the country using lignocellulosic biomass and other renewable feedstocks.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>What are Biofuels?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Biomass can be converted directly into <strong>liquid fuels, <\/strong>called biofuels.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The two <strong>most common types of biofuels<\/strong> in use today are <strong>ethanol and biodiesel,<\/strong> both of which represent the first generation of biofuel technology.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Ethanol:<\/strong> Ethanol (CH3CH2OH) is a renewable fuel that can be made from variou<strong>s plant materials,<\/strong> collectively known as \u201cbiomass.\u201d\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Biodiesel:<\/strong> It is a liquid fuel produced from renewable sources, such as <strong>new and used vegetable oils and animal fats<\/strong> and is a cleaner-burning replacement for petroleum-based diesel fuel.\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>It is nontoxic and biodegradable and is produced by combining <strong>alcohol with vegetable oil, animal fat, or recycled cooking grease.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Source: <\/strong><a
