The borders with the countries are as;\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Bangladesh: 4096.70 kms <\/strong>running along West Bengal, Assam, Meghalaya, Tripura and Mizoram.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Pakistan: 3323 kms<\/strong> running along Gujarat, Rajasthan, Punjab, Union Territory of Jammu &amp; Kashmir and Union Territory of Ladakh.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>China: 3488 kms<\/strong> running along Arunachal Pradesh, Sikkim, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh and the Union Territory of Ladakh.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Nepal: 1751 kms<\/strong> running along Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, West Bengal and Sikkim.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Bhutan: 699 kms<\/strong> running along Sikkim, West Bengal, Assam and Arunachal Pradesh.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Myanmar:&nbsp; 1643<\/strong> kms running along Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur and Mizoram.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Afghanistan: 106<\/strong> kms running along the Union Territory of Ladakh.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Need for Managing the Borders<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Porosity of Borders: <\/strong>Many parts of India\u2019s borders are porous, allowing illegal crossings of people, goods, and contraband such as drugs and weapons.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Ethnic and Tribal Dynamics:<\/strong> India\u2019s border regions are inhabited by diverse ethnic and tribal communities with historical, cultural, and social ties across borders.\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Managing these communities\u2019 aspirations, addressing their grievances, and preventing their exploitation by external forces require nuanced approaches to border management.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Dispute over Borders:<\/strong> India has <strong>unresolved border disputes<\/strong> with neighboring countries, most notably with China and Pakistan.\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>These disputes lead to occasional<strong> tensions and confrontations, <\/strong>necessitating constant vigilance and diplomatic efforts to maintain peace and stability along the borders.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Infrastructure Development:<\/strong> Many border areas in India lack basic infrastructure such as roads, communication networks, and border outposts, hampering the effectiveness of border management efforts.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Humanitarian Concerns:<\/strong> India shares borders with countries experiencing political instability, humanitarian crises, and refugee influxes.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>India\u2019s border management<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Border Infrastructure Development:<\/strong> The Border Roads Organisation (BRO) has constructed over <strong>8,500 kms of roads<\/strong> and more than 400 permanent bridges.\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Atal Tunnel, Sela Tunnel and Shikun-La Tunnel,<\/strong> which is going to be the world\u2019s highest tunnel, will prove to be milestones in border area development.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Trans-Arunachal Highway <\/strong>is a strategic project to enable quick and effective response against potential aggression by China.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Border Monitoring:<\/strong> Construction of fences, floodlights, roads, Border Out Posts (BOPs), and Company Operating Bases (COBs) for constant surveillance and rapid response to threats.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Security Measures:<\/strong> Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs), under the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), guard borders in peacetime.\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The Indian Army takes charge of border security during active hostilities to defend against external aggression.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img data-dominant-color=\"94badb\" data-has-transparency=\"false\" style=\"--dominant-color: #94badb;\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"465\" height=\"135\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-images.nextias.com\/cdn-cgi\/image\/format=auto\/ca\/uploads\/2024\/09\/Indias-border-management-jpg.webp\" alt=\"India\u2019s border management\" class=\"not-transparent wp-image-29710\" srcset=\"https:\/\/wp-images.nextias.com\/cdn-cgi\/image\/format=auto\/ca\/uploads\/2024\/09\/Indias-border-management-jpg.webp 465w, https:\/\/wp-images.nextias.com\/cdn-cgi\/image\/format=auto\/ca\/uploads\/2024\/09\/Indias-border-management-300x87.webp 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 465px) 100vw, 465px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Border Area Development Programme (BADP): <\/strong>Launched in 1986-87 for the balanced development of border areas in states\/U.T.  bordering Pakistan\u2014Jammu &amp;
