class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The festival is popular especially among the Munda, Ho, Oraon, Baiga, Kharia, and Santhal peoples.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>It is traditionally celebrated<\/strong> on the Ekadashi tithi (eleventh day) of the lunar fortnight in the month of Bhado\/ Bhadra, which corresponds to August-September in the Gregorian calendar.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>At the heart of the Karma festival is the<strong> Karam tree<\/strong>, the object from which the festival takes its name.\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Traditionally it is seen as a symbol of <strong>Karam Devta or Karamsani,<\/strong> the god of strength, youth, and vitality.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Towards the end of the festival, branches from sal trees are planted in the <strong>146th<\/strong> birth anniversary.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>About<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Periyar EV Ramasamy was born in <strong>1879.<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>He was an <strong>Indian social activist and politician<\/strong> who started the <strong>Self-Respect Movement <\/strong>to redeem the identity and self-respect of Tamils.\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>He is known as the &#8216;<strong>Father of the Dravidian movement&#8217;.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Political Career:<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Periyar started his political career as a<strong> Congress worker<\/strong> in his hometown Erode.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>However, over the question of separate dining for Brahmin and non-Brahmin students at Gurukkulam, a Congress-sponsored school, Periyar<strong> resigned from the party in 1925.<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Periyar\u2019s fame spread beyond the Tamil region during the <strong>Vaikom Satyagraha<\/strong> of <strong>1924<\/strong>, a mass movement to demand that lower caste persons be given the right to use a public path in front of the famous <strong>Vaikom temple.<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In the 1940s, he envisaged a Dravida homeland of Dravida Nadu, and launched a political party, <strong>Dravidar Kazhagam (DK).<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Legacy of Periyar EV Ramasamy\u00a0<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul
