{"id":29587,"date":"2024-09-17T19:11:10","date_gmt":"2024-09-17T13:41:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.nextias.com\/ca\/?p=29587"},"modified":"2024-09-17T19:11:11","modified_gmt":"2024-09-17T13:41:11","slug":"fourth-global-renewable-energy-investors-meet-and-expo-re-invest","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.nextias.com\/ca\/current-affairs\/17-09-2024\/fourth-global-renewable-energy-investors-meet-and-expo-re-invest","title":{"rendered":"Fourth Global Renewable Energy Investors\u2019 Meet and Expo (RE-INVEST)"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>Syllabus: GS3\/Environment and Conservation<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Context<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The Prime Minister inaugurated the <strong>fourth Global Renewable Energy Investors\u2019 Meet and Expo (RE-INVEST)<\/strong> in Gujarat.\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>It is a global platform bringing together<strong> key players in the renewable energy sector.\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>About<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Gujarat has pledged renewable energy capacity addition of 128.60 GW by 2030 \u2014 the highest among all the States.\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Andhra Pradesh has committed to adding 72.60 GW capacity, followed by Maharashtra, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh at 62.73 GW, 57.71 GW, and 47.63 GW, respectively.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Renewable Energy in India<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Renewable energy is energy <strong>derived from natural sources<\/strong> that are replenished at a higher rate than they are consumed.\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>They are more <strong>sustainable and environmentally friendly <\/strong>because they <strong>produce little to no greenhouse gases or pollutants<\/strong>.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>India stands <strong>4th globally in Renewable Energy Installed Capacity<\/strong>, 4th in Wind Power capacity &amp; 5th in Solar Power capacity (as per REN21 Renewables 2024 Global Status Report).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>India has already achieved its target of<strong> 40% installed electric capacity from non-fossil fuels in 2021 itself.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>India\u2019s Targets<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>India has a vision is to achieve<strong> Net Zero Emissions by 2070,<\/strong> in addition to attaining the short-term targets which include:\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Increasing renewables capacity to<strong> 500 GW by 2030,<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Meeting <strong>50% of energy requirements<\/strong> from renewables,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Reducing cumulative emissions by<strong> one billion tonnes by 2030, <\/strong>and<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Reducing emissions intensity of India\u2019s gross domestic product (GDP) by <strong>45% by 2030 from 2005 levels.\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Steps Taken by Government for Transition to Renewable Energy Sources<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>National Solar Mission (NSM): <\/strong>It was<strong> <\/strong>launched in <strong>2010,<\/strong> it has set ambitious targets for solar capacity installation, including grid-connected and off-grid solar power projects.\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Green Energy Corridors: <\/strong>The Green Energy Corridor project focuses on enhancing the transmission infrastructure to facilitate the integration of renewable energy into the national grid.\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>National Wind Energy Mission:<\/strong> Focuses on the development and expansion of wind energy in India.
