{"id":2718,"date":"2023-03-01T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2023-03-01T00:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.nextias.com\/current_affairs\/uncategorized\/01-03-2023\/grievance-appellate-committee-gac-portal\/"},"modified":"2023-03-01T00:00:00","modified_gmt":"2023-03-01T00:00:00","slug":"grievance-appellate-committee-gac-portal","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.nextias.com\/ca\/current-affairs\/01-03-2023\/grievance-appellate-committee-gac-portal","title":{"rendered":"Grievance Appellate Committee (GAC) portal"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-size:13pt\"><span style=\"font-family:'Book Antiqua',serif\"><span style=\"color:#000000\"><strong><u>In News<\/u><\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li style=\"list-style-type:decimal\"><span style=\"font-size:12pt\"><span style=\"font-family:'Book Antiqua',serif\"><span style=\"color:#000000\">The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology launched the <\/span><\/span><\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nextias.com\/current-affairs\/31-01-2023\/grievance-appellate-committees-gac\" style=\"text-decoration:none\"><span style=\"font-size:12pt\"><span style=\"font-family:'Book Antiqua',serif\"><span style=\"color:#1155cc\"><u>Grievance Appellate Committee (GAC)<\/u><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-size:12pt\"><span style=\"font-family:'Book Antiqua',serif\"><span style=\"color:#000000\"> portal under the <\/span><\/span><\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nextias.com\/current-affairs\/01-11-2022\/the-amendments-to-the-it-rules-2021\" style=\"text-decoration:none\"><span style=\"font-size:12pt\"><span style=\"font-family:'Book Antiqua',serif\"><span style=\"color:#1155cc\"><u>IT Rules, 2021.<\/u><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/a><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><span style=\"font-size:13pt\"><span style=\"font-family:'Book Antiqua',serif\"><span style=\"color:#000000\"><strong><u>About the portal\u00a0<\/u><\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type:disc\"><span style=\"font-size:12pt\"><span style=\"font-family:'Book Antiqua',serif\"><span style=\"color:#000000\">It will be a virtual digital platform that will operate online &#8211; wherein the entire appeal process, from the filing of an appeal to the decision thereof, shall be conducted digitally.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"list-style-type:disc\"><span style=\"font-size:12pt\"><span style=\"font-family:'Book Antiqua',serif\"><span style=\"color:#000000\">It is developed by the National Informatics Centre (NIC).<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"list-style-type:disc\"><span style=\"font-size:12pt\"><span style=\"font-family:'Book Antiqua',serif\"><span style=\"color:#000000\">It will allow people who are dissatisfied with complaints to social media companies on content takedown requests, to be heard by one of <\/span><\/span><\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nextias.com\/current-affairs\/31-01-2023\/grievance-appellate-committees-gac\" style=\"text-decoration:none\"><span style=\"font-size:12pt\"><span style=\"font-family:'Book Antiqua',serif\"><span style=\"color:#1155cc\"><u>three Committees<\/u><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-size:12pt\"><span style=\"font-family:'Book Antiqua',serif\"><span style=\"color:#000000\"> constituted by the government.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div>\n<table cellspacing=\"0\" style=\"border-collapse:collapse; border:none; table-layout:fixed; width:624px\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td style=\"background-color:#ead1dc; border-bottom:1px solid #000000; border-left:1px solid #000000; border-right:1px solid #000000; border-top:1px solid #000000; vertical-align:top\">\n<p><span style=\"font-size:13pt\"><span style=\"font-family:'Book Antiqua',serif\"><span style=\"color:#000000\"><strong><u>The Grievance Appellate Committee (GAC)<\/u><\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type:disc\"><span style=\"font-size:12pt\"><span style=\"font-family:'Book Antiqua',serif\"><span style=\"color:#000000\">In January 2023, the Centre announced the establishment of<\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-size:12pt\"><span style=\"font-family:'Book Antiqua',serif\"><span style=\"color:#000000\"><strong> three GACs <\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-size:12pt\"><span style=\"font-family:'Book Antiqua',serif\"><span style=\"color:#000000\">based on the recently amended Information Technology (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules, 2021.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"list-style-type:disc\"><span style=\"font-size:12pt\"><span style=\"font-family:'Book Antiqua',serif\"><span style=\"color:#000000\">The GAC is an online dispute resolution mechanism. The entire appeal process, from filing to a decision, is in digital mode.
