Since then, it has erupted more than 200 times.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The current eruptions at Etna have led to flight cancellations at nearby airport.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>What is a volcano?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Volcanoes are <strong>openings, or vents <\/strong>where lava, tephra (small rocks), and steam erupt onto the Earth\u2019s surface. Volcanoes can be on land and in the ocean.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>These volcanic areas usually<strong> form mountains<\/strong> built from the many layers of rock, ash or other material that collect around them.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Volcanoes can be<strong> active, dormant, or extinct.&nbsp;<\/strong>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Active volcanoes are volcanoes that have had<strong> recent eruptions <\/strong>or are expected to have eruptions in the near future.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Dormant volcanoes no longer produce eruptions, but might again sometime in the future.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Extinct volcanoes will likely never erupt again.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>There are four main types of volcanoes:<\/strong> cinder cones, composite or stratovolcanoes, shield volcanoes and lava domes.\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Their type is determined by how the lava from an eruption flows and how that flow affects the volcano, and, as a result, how it affects its surrounding environment.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img data-dominant-color=\"c6c19f\" data-has-transparency=\"false\" style=\"--dominant-color: #c6c19f;\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"636\" height=\"179\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-images.nextias.com\/cdn-cgi\/image\/format=auto\/ca\/uploads\/2023\/11\/image-7.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"not-transparent wp-image-18791\" srcset=\"https:\/\/wp-images.nextias.com\/cdn-cgi\/image\/format=auto\/ca\/uploads\/2023\/11\/image-7.png 636w, https:\/\/wp-images.nextias.com\/cdn-cgi\/image\/format=auto\/ca\/uploads\/2023\/11\/image-7-300x84.png 300w, https:\/\/wp-images.nextias.com\/cdn-cgi\/image\/format=auto\/ca\/uploads\/2023\/11\/image-7-150x42.png 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 636px) 100vw, 636px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>How do volcanoes erupt?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The way a volcano erupts depends on the <strong>amount of gas and silica<\/strong> (a molecule of silicon oxygen) in the magma.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Magma with lots of silica is thick and gooey, while magma low in silica is thin and runny. And in magma with lots of gas, bubbles form as it rises. The <strong>more bubbles that form, the more explosive the eruption.<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>It allows <strong>material warmer than its surroundings<\/strong> to escape from its interior. Scientists use seismographic data from earthquakes and other tremors, because those can be a precursor to volcanic eruptions.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Source: <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/indianexpress.com\/article\/explained\/explained-sci-tech\/mount-etna-lava-eruption-volcanoes-explained-9026467\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>IE<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-center\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Parliamentary Committee Suggested for Re-institution of Adultery<\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Syllabus:GS1\/ Society<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>News<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The Parliamentary Committee on Home Affairs has suggested that adultery should be re-instituted as a crime in the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, the proposed law to replace the Indian Penal Code (IPC), 1860.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>What is adultery ?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Adultery is a <strong>voluntary sexual relationship<\/strong> between a married person and someone who is not their spouse.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>The Indian Penal Code, 1860<\/strong> contained Section 497, defined adultery as a criminal offense. This law made it a crime for a man to have sexual intercourse with the wife of another man without that man\u2019s consent.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The law treated women as the property of their husbands and did not provide for any punishment for women who committed adultery.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Supreme court Judgment<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>In Joseph Shine vs Union Of India, 2018, <\/strong>the Supreme Court struck down Section 497 of the IPC on grounds that included discrimination.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The Supreme Court said that the law was <strong>archaic, arbitrary, and paternalistic<\/strong> and that it infringed upon a woman\u2019s autonomy, dignity, and privacy, and that it reduced the married woman to being her husband\u2019s property.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>According to the judgment Section 497 was violative of<strong> Articles 14, 15, and 21 <\/strong>of the Constitution, which protect the fundamental<strong> Right to equality, Right to non-discrimination, and Right to life<\/strong> respectively.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The Supreme court said that&nbsp; if it is treated as a crime, there would be immense<strong> intrusion into the extreme privacy<\/strong> of the matrimonial sphere. It is better to be left as a ground for divorce.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Recommendation of Parliamentary Committee&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The committee is of the view that the institution of marriage is considered sacred in Indian society and there is a need to safeguard its sanctity.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Hence adultery should be reinstated as a criminal offense, but it should be made gender-neutral \u2014 that is, both men and women should be punished for it.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Source: <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/indianexpress.com\/article\/explained\/explained-law\/adultery-ipc-bns-house-9027529\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>IE<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-center\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">PM Janjati Adivasi Nyaya Maha Abhiyan<\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Syllabus: GS2\/Government Policies and interventions<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>In News<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The Prime Minister has launched The<strong> PM Janjati Adivasi Nyaya Maha Abhiyan <\/strong>for vulnerable tribal groups on the occasion of<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nextias.com\/ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/15_11_DCA.pdf\"> <strong>Janjatiya Gaurav Divas<\/strong><\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>About<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The<strong> PM Janjati Adivasi Nyaya Maha Abhiyan<\/strong> is meant to ensure last-mile welfare scheme delivery and protection for <strong>Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups (PVTGs).<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The PM also launched the <strong>Visksit Bharat Sankalp Yatra,<\/strong> a nationwide programme to reach out to all villages and include those eligible for various central schemes.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Who are Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups (PVTGs)?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>In 1973, the <strong>Dhebar Commission<\/strong> set up a separate category for <strong>Primitive Tribal Groups (PTGs)<\/strong>.\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>In 1975,<\/strong> the Union identified 52 tribal groups as PTGs.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>In 1993,<\/strong> 23 more groups were added to the list. Later, in 2006, these groups were named PVTGs.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>PVTGs are a<strong> more vulnerable group<\/strong> among tribal groups in India.\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>These groups have primitive traits, geographical isolation, low literacy, zero to negative population growth rate and backwardness.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Moreover, they are largely dependent upon hunting for food and a pre-agriculture level of technology.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>It is said that more developed tribal groups take advantage of the development funds, and thus, there is a <strong>need to direct more funds towards PVTGs.<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>According to the 2011 Census, <strong>Odisha<\/strong> has the largest population of PVTGs followed by Madhya Pradesh.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>PM PVTG Development Mission?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>As part of the mission, basic facilities such as road and telecom connectivity, electricity, safe housing, clean drinking water and sanitation, improved access to education, health and nutrition and sustainable livelihood opportunities will be provided to areas where these tribal groups live.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Several ministries will work in tandem to implement development projects.\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The schemes include Pradhan could include aggregated information, such as the overall health data of a particular demography, weather and climate data of an area, and traffic data, among others.<\/td><\/tr><\/tbody><\/table><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Significance<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Mandatory sharing of information: <\/strong>A contract is usually signed with the big tech companies when a user joins their platform, which includes their<strong> terms of service and privacy policy<\/strong>.\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The Digital India Bill will propose that under the terms of service when a user agrees that a company can use their anonymised personal data, that particular information will mandatorily have to be deposited to the India datasets platform.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The move, if finalised, could see these companies claim intellectual property rights over such data, and initiate discussions around the ownership of such data.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>No exclusive ownership of data: <\/strong>The government has long been interested in this issue since such datasets form the bedrock of artificial intelligence (AI) models.\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The Centre\u2019s idea is that big tech companies have reaped dividends by building algorithms on the basis of Indians\u2019 non-personal data and that they cannot claim exclusive ownership over it.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Data Governance<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Meaning: <\/strong>Data governance is the<strong> process of managing<\/strong> the <strong>availability, usability, integrity <\/strong>and <strong>security<\/strong> of the data in enterprise systems, <strong>based on internal data standards and policies<\/strong> that also control data usage.\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Effective data governance<\/strong> ensures that data is consistent and trustworthy and doesn&#8217;t get misused.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Significance of data governance in India:<\/strong>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>India has <strong>embraced technology and digitalisation<\/strong> to drive economic growth and to improve the lives of its citizens.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Significant progress<\/strong> has been made in the <strong>use of digital technologies<\/strong> to provide<strong> access to bank accounts <\/strong>and in the <strong>promotion of digital transactions <\/strong>through the Unified Payments Interface (<strong>UPI<\/strong>) and other options.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>However, as the country continues to evolve, it must also ensure that<strong> its digital strategies and data governance<\/strong> are<strong> inclusive, transparent, secure, and conducive<\/strong> to sustainable development.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Digital India Act, 2023<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Remodelling of the IT Act:<\/strong>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The<strong> Digital India Act, 2023 <\/strong>is a broad overhaul of the <strong>Information Technology Act, 2000<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Covering new and complex issues:<\/strong>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The Digital India Act would cover provisions such as <strong>Artificial Intelligence (AI), deepfakes, cybercrime, competition<\/strong> <strong>issues <\/strong>among internet platforms, and data protection.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The new law would seek to address<strong> \u201cnew complex forms of user harms\u201d<\/strong> that have emerged in the years since the IT Act\u2019s enactment, such as<strong> catfishing, doxxing, trolling, and phishing<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Reconsideration of the \u2018safe harbour\u2019 provision:<\/strong>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The government is reconsidering a key aspect of cyberspace<strong> \u2018safe harbour\u2019<\/strong>, which is the principle that <strong>\u2018intermediaries\u2019 on the internet are not responsible for what third parties post on their website<\/strong>.\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>This is the principle that allows social media platforms<strong> to avoid liability for posts made by users<\/strong>.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Safe harbour has been reined in recent years by regulations like the <strong>Information Technology (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules, 2021,<\/strong> which require <strong>platforms to take down posts<\/strong> when ordered to do so by the government, or when required by law.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Changes in the new Act:<\/strong>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Platforms for which safe harbour was applied as a concept \u201chave now <strong>morphed into multiple types of participants<\/strong> and <strong>platforms <\/strong>on the internet, functionally very different from each other, and <strong>requiring different types of guardrails and regulatory requirements<\/strong>.\u201d<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Social media platforms\u2019 own moderation policies <strong>may now take a backseat to constitutional protections<\/strong> for<strong> freedom of expression<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Subsumption of other digital legislations:<\/strong>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Amendment to the IT Rules, 2021 <\/strong>says that platforms must respect users\u2019 free speech rights. Anything with mass makes these dents, from the Earth and Moon to turtles and cats.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>The Electromagnetic force:&nbsp; <\/strong>The electromagnetic force, like gravity, has infinite range but is a lot stronger.\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>However, its net effects are often not felt because it can be both attractive and repulsive, which tend to cancel. This is the force, through interaction between electric charges, that makes television work and magnets stick, causes friction between bodies and tension in strings, and all of chemistry.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The<strong> electromagnetic <\/strong>force holds together objects with opposite electrical charges, like the proton and electron that make up one hydrogen atom.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>The weak force: <\/strong>It<strong> <\/strong>\u00a0operates only up to distances of 10-18 m \u2013 about one-thousandth the size of a proton.\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>For reasons we don\u2019t understand, it acts only on particles that, if they are moving near the speed of light, spin counter-clockwise with respect to the direction of their momentum.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>As a result, this force would vanish in a universe in the mirror dimension: there, the same particles would spin clockwise relative to their momentum.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The weak interaction is responsible for producing the radiation used in nuclear medicine.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The weak force can change a quark from one type to another: from up to down. That change could turn a proton into a neutron or vice versa. This process would also produce a neutrino and an electron or anti-electron through a process called beta decay.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>The strong force<\/strong>: It ranges over somewhat longer distances, around 10-15 m.
