China plans to reduce the consumption of single-use plastic items in the restaurant industry by 30%,<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Cristsims\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Nudges have been criticised in the past for being manipulative: they are not always transparent and can sometimes bank on ignorance or lack of awareness in people to work.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Recent Research<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>A study conducted in collaboration with an online food delivery platform in China found that making \u201cno disposable cutlery\u201d the default choice for orders and rewarding customers with \u201cgreen points\u201d led to a 648% increase in the share of no-cutlery orders.\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>This step could have significant benefits for the environment.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Do Green Nudges Work in India?<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Zomato, an online food delivery platform in India that occupies over 50% of market share in the space, also has similar nudges on its app.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>While the company says that the option to skip cutlery was always available on its platform, it changed the default selection to \u201cno-cutlery\u201d in August 2021.\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>\u201cZomato\u2019s no-cutlery initiative was designed to reduce not just plastic but overall material waste.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Source: <a href=\"https:\/\/epaper.thehindu.com\/ccidist-ws\/th\/th_delhi\/issues\/52440\/OPS\/G8HBP62NA.1+G6HBP69Q2.1.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">TH<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Syllabus : GS 3\/Environment In News What are Green Nudges?
