{"id":17347,"date":"2023-09-19T18:02:55","date_gmt":"2023-09-19T12:32:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.nextias.com\/current_affairs\/?p=17347"},"modified":"2023-09-19T18:02:58","modified_gmt":"2023-09-19T12:32:58","slug":"operation-sajag","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.nextias.com\/ca\/current-affairs\/19-09-2023\/operation-sajag","title":{"rendered":"Operation Sajag"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>Syllabus: GS-3\/Internal Security<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">In News<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The Indian Coast Guard conducted \u2018<strong>Operation Sajag\u2019<\/strong>, a Coastal Security Drill along the Western Coast.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">About Operation Sajag:\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>This operation serves to <strong>revalidate the coastal security mechanism<\/strong> and <strong>raise awareness among fishermen at sea.<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A total of <strong>118 ships <\/strong>including those from Customs, Marine Police, Ports &amp; Indian Navy participated in the drill.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Under this, <strong>extensive checking and verification of documents <\/strong>and crew passes of all fishing boats, barges and sea crafts are carried out.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>It occurs<strong> monthly for one day <\/strong>and helps in&nbsp; <strong>monitoring of dhows, island security, and community interaction programs.<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Several measures have been implemented to strengthen coastal security<\/strong>-issuance of biometric cards for fishermen, color-coding of fishing boats by state, staffing of fish landing centers, access control at entry\/exit checkpoints, coastal mapping, designation of specific marine band frequencies for security agencies, and marine police training by the Indian Coast Guard.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-table\"><table><tbody><tr><td><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Indian Coast Guard<\/strong><br><\/span>&#8211; The Indian Coast Guard is a maritime law enforcement and search and rescue agency of India with jurisdiction over its territorial waters including its <strong>contiguous zone and exclusive economic zone.<\/strong><br>&#8211;
