{"id":17332,"date":"2023-09-19T17:32:16","date_gmt":"2023-09-19T12:02:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.nextias.com\/current_affairs\/?p=17332"},"modified":"2023-09-19T17:32:20","modified_gmt":"2023-09-19T12:02:20","slug":"shreyas-scheme","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.nextias.com\/ca\/current-affairs\/19-09-2023\/shreyas-scheme","title":{"rendered":"SHREYAS Scheme\u00a0"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>Syllabus: GS2\/Education<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">In News<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The government shared the progress made under the <strong>SHREYAS Scheme.&nbsp;<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">About<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>It is an <strong>umbrella schem<\/strong>e which comprises <strong>4 central sector sub-schemes<\/strong> namely &#8220;Top Class Education for SCs&#8221;, &#8220;Free Coaching Scheme for SCs and OBCs&#8221;, &#8220;National Overseas Scheme for SCs&#8221; and &#8220;National Fellowship for SCs&#8221;.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>From 2014-15 till 2022-23 a total of 1628.89 crore rupees have been released to benefit 21326 beneficiaries.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Free Coaching Scheme for SCs and OBCs<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Objective:<\/strong> To provide coaching of good quality for economically disadvantaged Scheduled Castes (SCs) and Other Backward Classes (OBCs) candidates to enable them appear in competitive and entrance examinations.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Income Ceiling:<\/strong> Total family income is <strong>8 lakhs per annum.<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>The ratio of SC: OBC students is 70:30<\/strong> and 30% slots are reserved for females in each category.\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>In no case, a less than 50% SC students shall be permitted.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Top-Class Education for SCs<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Aim: <\/strong>Recognizing and promoting quality education amongst students belonging to SCs, by providing<strong> full financial support.&nbsp;<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The Scheme will cover SC students for pursuing <strong>studies beyond 12th class.&nbsp;<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The scholarship, once awarded, <strong>will continue till the completion of the course, <\/strong>subject to satisfactory performance of the student.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Income Ceiling:<\/strong> Total family income is <strong>8 lakhs per annum.<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Under the scheme:\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>full tuition fee and non-refundable charges (there will be a ceiling of Rs. 2.00 lakh per annum per student for private sector institutions),<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Academic allowance of Rs. 86,000 in the first year of study and Rs. 41,000 in every subsequent year, to take care of living and other expenses is provided.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">National Overseas Scheme for SCs<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Objective:<\/strong> Financial assistance is provided to the selected students from SCs;
