{"id":17299,"date":"2023-09-18T17:19:55","date_gmt":"2023-09-18T11:49:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.nextias.com\/current_affairs\/?p=17299"},"modified":"2023-09-18T17:19:58","modified_gmt":"2023-09-18T11:49:58","slug":"entrances-of-indias-new-parliament","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.nextias.com\/ca\/current-affairs\/18-09-2023\/entrances-of-indias-new-parliament","title":{"rendered":"Entrances of India\u2019s New Parliament"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>Syllabus: GS-2\/Indian Polity, Parliament<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">In News<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The Vice President hoisted the <strong>National Flag at Gaja Dwar<\/strong> at India\u2019s new Parliament Building, before its first session.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">About New Parliament<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>It was built as part of the <strong>Indian government\u2019s Central Vista Redevelopment Project.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The new Parliament Building has<strong> six gates<\/strong> named after animals and creatures.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Out of these six entrances, three are designed as <strong>ceremonial entrances<\/strong>, to welcome special guests and to mark special events. They have been named as <strong>Gyan, Shakti and Karma<\/strong>, representing the Indian knowledge system, patriotism and artistic traditions, respectively.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/lh3.googleusercontent.com\/cLTkwebtzqjjqw8wR3tk6SwAv4M2NFj_8j9uWqy416tQPN3arFY1Qaq_2nsucg1ax93nk6IdyrpQNB8YATr6D7Ew7UkOw4UcA6xKWMGd1yM_1dOIjBPJ9-2Tn7nhxy1ngUXp4SuUhbjCEyReJJGA1cg\" alt=\"\" style=\"width:446px;height:496px\" width=\"446\" height=\"496\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">The Six statues at the Entrances of New Parliament<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Gaja Dwar (the Elephant Gate)<\/strong>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>It represents <strong>intellect, memory, wealth and wisdom.&nbsp;<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>This gate is on the<strong> north side<\/strong> of the building.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Ashwa (Horse) Dwar<\/strong>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>It is at the Southern entrance. A horse symbolises <strong>power, strength and courage<\/strong> , describing the quality of&nbsp; governance.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Garuda (the King of Birds)<\/strong>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>It is believed to be the mount of <strong>Lord Vishnu <\/strong>(the preserver in the Hindu trinity). It makes Garuda a symbol of power and dharma (duty).The Garuda gate is the eastern entrance of the new Parliament building.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Makara (the Mythological Aquatic Creature)<\/strong>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>It is named after the legendary sea creature that is a combination of different animals.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Makara sculptures are seen in Hindu and Buddhist monuments spread across South and Southeast Asia.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>On one hand, Makara is considered as the combination of different creatures that represents India&#8217;s unity in diversity. On the other hand, Makara sculptures at doorways are seen as protectors.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The Makara Dwar faces the entrance to the old Parliament building.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Shardula (the Mythological Creature)<\/strong>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>It is a mythological creature who has the body of a lion, the head of a horse, elephant or parrot.
