Odisha.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">About Scrub Typhus<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"314.67116357504216\" class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>It is caused by a zoonotic rickettsial bacterium called <strong>Orientia tsutsugamushi,<\/strong> which is transmitted to humans through the bites of infected <strong>chiggers (larval mites)<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Mites carrying the disease are <strong>generally found in the bush, jungle and paddy areas<\/strong>, so the disease is also called <strong>jungle or bush typhus.<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The <strong>symptoms<\/strong> of scrub typhus commonly include <em>fever, headache, body ache <\/em>and sometimes a rash.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Role of climate in spread of Scrub Typhus<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The chiggers that transmit the disease generally live in low temperature and high humidity conditions.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A 2022 study looked into clustering of scrub typhus cases in South India, found <strong>temperature, humidity and rainfall<\/strong> had a major role in the incidence of scrub typhus.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A 2017 study looking into scrub typhus cases in China also found that a <strong>1\u00b0C increase in mean temperature was associated with a 3.8% increase<\/strong> in the odds of scrub typhus cases during the same week.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Diagnosis and Testing:<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Laboratory testing like<strong> Elisa tests<\/strong>, which is available almost in all district public health laboratories.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Prevention and Treatment:<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>No vaccine<\/strong> is available to prevent scrub typhus.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>It is suggested the risk of contracting the infection by avoiding contact with infected chiggers.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If someone gets infected by scrub typhus then it should be treated with the <strong>antibiotic doxycycline.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><a
