{"id":17107,"date":"2023-09-13T18:15:42","date_gmt":"2023-09-13T12:45:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.nextias.com\/current_affairs\/?p=17107"},"modified":"2023-09-13T18:16:03","modified_gmt":"2023-09-13T12:46:03","slug":"bro-infrastructure-projects","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.nextias.com\/ca\/current-affairs\/13-09-2023\/bro-infrastructure-projects","title":{"rendered":"BRO Infrastructure Projects\u00a0"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>Syllabus: GS3\/ Defence and Infrastructure&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">News<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The Defence Minister has dedicated 90 infrastructure projects of the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) to the nation.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">About<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The projects are worth over <strong>Rs 2,900 crore,<\/strong> spread across 11 States\/Union Territories.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Of these 90 projects, 36 are in Arunachal Pradesh; 26 in Ladakh; 11 in Jammu &amp; Kashmir; five in Mizoram; three in Himachal Pradesh; two each in Sikkim, Uttarakhand &amp; West Bengal and one each in Nagaland, Rajasthan and Andaman &amp; Nicobar Islands.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Important projects\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Devak Bridge: <\/strong>The bridge in Jammu has a <strong>422.9-metre<\/strong> span and has come up on the Bishnah-Kaulpur-Phulpur Road, close to the Indo-Pak international border.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Nechiphu Tunnel: <\/strong>It is the <strong>500-meter<\/strong> long Nechiphu Tunnel on <strong>Balipara-Charduar-Tawang<\/strong> Road in <strong>Arunachal Pradesh<\/strong>. This tunnel, along with the under construction Sela Tunnel, will provide all-weather connectivity to the strategic Tawang Region.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Bagdogra and Barrackpore Airfields<\/strong>:These airfields, constructed in West Bengal&nbsp; at a cost of over Rs 500 crore, will bolster the preparedness of the Indian Air Force (IAF) along with facilitating commercial flight operations in the region.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Nyoma Airfield:<\/strong> The Airfield is in Eastern Ladakh. This airfield, to be developed at a cost of approx. Rs 200 crore, will boost the air infrastructure in Ladakh and augment IAF\u2019s capability along the Northern border.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-table\"><table><tbody><tr><td><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Border Roads Organisation (BRO)<\/strong><br><\/span><br>&#8211; It was formed in <strong>1960 by Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru<\/strong> for coordinating the speedy development of an adequate road communication network of roads in the<strong> North and the North-Eastern border<\/strong> regions of the country.<br>&#8211; It works under the administrative control of the <strong>Ministry of Defence.<\/strong><br><br>&#8211; <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Major Functions<\/strong><br><\/span>1. Support the armed forces meet their strategic needs by committed, dedicated and cost-effective development and sustenance of the infrastructure.<br>2. Achieve international levels of quality excellence and time consciousness in a diversified sphere of construction activity in a cost-effective manner.<br>3.
