In recent months, tech giants such as Google, Microsoft, IBM, Meta, Amazon, Cognizant, and big startups such as Byju\u2019s and Ola have fired thousands of employees in India.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n
Demand for skills & IT professionals:<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span>\n

In some sectors, tech talent continues to be in demand as non-tech industries undergo a digital transformation.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n
Several companies in banking and non-banking, hospitality, automobiles, manufacturing, pharmaceuticals, and education are <\/span><\/span><\/span>seeking skilled IT talent<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span> to drive their digital progress.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n
On the flip side, there is <\/span><\/span><\/span>still some hope for blue- and grey-collared employees<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span>, according to hiring firms.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

Cost-cutting, tough macroeconomic conditions, reduced revenue visibility, and a freeze on fresh hirings after a few quarters of over-hiring.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n
In several cases, the companies have blamed it on the \u2018underperformance\u2019 of the staff.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n

India\u2019s economic growth has been largely services led, with a small pool of skills at the upper end, given a glaring failure in mass education, while capital intensity has increased in manufacturing overall in spite of our labour abundance.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n
Low participation of women:<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span>\n

One reason is essentially about the working conditions \u2014 such as law and order, efficient public transportation, violence against women, societal norms etc \u2014 being far from conducive for women to seek work.<\/span><\/span><\/span>\n

A lot of women in India are exclusively involved within their own homes (caring for their family) of their own volition.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n

National Career Service (NCS) Project:<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span>\n

Project for transformation of the National Employment Service to provide a variety of career related services like job matching, career counselling, vocational guidance, information on skill development courses, apprenticeship, internships etc.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n
It is under the aegis of Ministry of Labour and Employment.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n
Pt. DeenDayal Upadhyaya Grameen Kaushlya Yojana (DDU-GKY):<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span>\n

Rural Self-Employment and Training Institutes (RSETIs):<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span>\n

RSETIs are Rural Self Employment Training Institutes,\u00a0 an initiative of the Ministry of Rural Development (MoRD) to have dedicated infrastructure in each district of the country to impart training and skill upgradation of rural youth geared towards entrepreneurship development.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n

It is time we take the Skill<\/span><\/span><\/span> development initiative<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span> undertaken by the government to be implemented effectively.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n
Employment generation, coupled with<\/span><\/span><\/span> improving employability<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span> should be the priority of the government.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
