The Bastille Day military parade, also known as the<\/span><\/span><\/span> 14 July military parade<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span>.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n
It is a French military parade that has been held on the morning of 14 July each year in Paris since 1880, almost without exception.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n
It is a <\/span><\/span><\/span>popular event in France<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span>, it is also one of the<\/span><\/span><\/span> oldest regular military parades <\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span>in the world.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n

July 14 is more popularly associated with the<\/span><\/span><\/span> storming of the Bastille in 1789<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span>, it is also the <\/span><\/span><\/span>anniversary of F\u00eate de la F\u00e9d\u00e9ration<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span>, an event held in 1790 <\/span><\/span><\/span>to celebrate the unity of the French people<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span>.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n
Also, while Bastille Day is often seen as the <\/span><\/span><\/span>symbol of the end of monarchy<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span>, kings and queens continued in France till long after that.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n

New Delhi and Paris, as part of their joint efforts on climate change, launched <\/span><\/span><\/span>the International Solar Alliance in 2015<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span>.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n

The two sides also cooperate closely on climate change initiatives. Recently they signed a <\/span><\/span><\/span>Road Map on Green Hydrogen<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span>, which aims \u201cto bring the French and Indian hydrogen ecosystems together\u201d to establish a reliable and sustainable value chain for a global supply of decarbonised hydrogen.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n
Indo-Pacific:<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span>\n

\u201c<\/span><\/span><\/span>Joint Strategic Vision of India-France Cooperation in the Indian Ocean Region<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span>\u201d presents a blueprint for a strengthening of ties like Franco-Indian joint patrolling in the Indian Ocean.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n
India and France agreed to set up an <\/span><\/span><\/span>Indo-Pacific Trilateral Development Cooperation Fund <\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span>that will support innovative solutions for countries in the region.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n

While defence deals with the US are dogged by unpredictability due to <\/span><\/span><\/span>Congressional interventions and export control regimes, <\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span>the French deals come with <\/span><\/span><\/span>no such conditions<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span>.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n
As talk of the US-India deal on technology transfer for the <\/span><\/span><\/span>GE F414 jet engine <\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span>for the <\/span><\/span><\/span>Tejas Light Combat Aircraft <\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span>became louder earlier this year, the French offered their own <\/span><\/span><\/span>Safran engine<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span> that would be <\/span><\/span><\/span>fully made in India<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span>.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n
While the US offer, which signalled a major breakthrough in India-US defence ties, <\/span><\/span><\/span>does not include the transfer of a critical part of the technology<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span>, the French are said to have promised <\/span><\/span><\/span>100 per cent technology transfer<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span>.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n

Russia\u2019s invasion of Ukraine and the geopolitical changes it triggered have brought a new European awareness of the strategic importance of India and vice versa.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n
India remains hopeful that differences over the war in Ukraine will not block a positive outcome.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n
The visit could provide an opportunity for the Prime Minister to understand better the French and European assessment of the war, and be prepared to take \u201cindividual decisions\u201d with regard to forging consensus at the G20 summit.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
