    • They are tiny, they are tough, and the latest of their ilk to be <\/span><\/span><\/span>identified has been named after Kerala.<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n
    • The new tardigrade is a species of the <\/span><\/span><\/span>genus Stygarctus.<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span>\n

      • It\u00a0 is the <\/span><\/span><\/span>eighth species named under the genus Stygarctus<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span>, which grows up to a length of 130 micrometres (0.13 mm).<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n
      • Stygarctus keralensis\u00a0 is the first<\/span><\/span><\/span> taxonomically described marine tardigrade<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span> from the Indian waters, which makes the <\/span><\/span><\/span>discovery a significant one.<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n
      • The present discovery is an outcome of an o<\/span><\/span><\/span>ngoing Ministry of Earth Sciences-National Centre for Earth Science Studies stud<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span>y on the <\/span><\/span><\/span>ecology and diversity of submarine groundwater habitats of Kerala.<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

        • Tardigrades are so <\/span><\/span><\/span>small and a\u00a0 high-end microscope is required to study them .<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n
        • Commonly called <\/span><\/span><\/span>\u2018water bears\u2019 and \u2018moss piglets\u2019<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span>, they also rank among the<\/span><\/span><\/span> hardiest animals on planet earth despite their minuscule size<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span>.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n
        • They are very <\/span><\/span><\/span>tough animals <\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span>and are found <\/span><\/span><\/span>everywhere on earth<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span>, from mountain tops to the deep sea.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n
        • They have s<\/span><\/span><\/span>urvived five mass extinctions<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span>.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n
        • They are also <\/span><\/span><\/span>related to insects,<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span> spiders, and crustaceans and are the lesser-known <\/span><\/span><\/span>taxa of invertebrates<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span>.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

          • They employ a curious process to deal with environmental stress. <\/span><\/span><\/span>Called \u2018cryptobiosis<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span>\u2019, it brings their metabolic activities to a reversible standstill. A death-like state, more or less.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n

  • A tripartite Concession Agreement between <\/span><\/span><\/span>National Mission for Clean Ganga (NMCG),<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span> Kolkata Metropolitan Development Authority (KMDA) and M\/s. Maheshtala Waste Water Management Private Limited was signed for the development of a 35 MLD Sewage Treatment Plant for Maheshtala on <\/span><\/span><\/span>Hybrid Annuity PPP mode<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span>.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    Namami Gange Programme<\/u><\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

    • It is a flagship programme of the government and is implemented by the <\/span><\/span><\/span>National Mission for Clean Ganga (NMCG)<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span>, and State Programme Management Groups in the states.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n
    • NMCG is the implementation wing of the National Ganga Council established in 2016 which replaced the National Ganga River Basin Authority (NGRBA).<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n
    • It works under the Department of Water Resources, River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation, <\/span><\/span><\/span>Ministry of Jal Shakti.<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n
    • It is an <\/span><\/span><\/span>Integrated Conservation Mission<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span>, approved as \u2018Flagship Programme\u2019 by the Union Government in June 2014 with a budget outlay of <\/span><\/span><\/span>Rs.20,000<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span> Crore to accomplish the twin <\/span><\/span><\/span>objectives of effective abatement of pollution, conservation and rejuvenation of National River Ganga.<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n

        • The Ganga is the most important river of India both from the point of view of its basin and cultural significance.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n
        • Origin:<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span> It rises from the Gangotri glacier near <\/span><\/span><\/span>Gaumukh (3,900 m)<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span> in the Uttarkashi district of Uttarakhand. Here, it is known as the <\/span><\/span><\/span>Bhagirathi.<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n
        • At <\/span><\/span><\/span>Devprayag,<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span> the <\/span><\/span><\/span>Bhagirathi meets the Alaknanda<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span>, then after, it is <\/span><\/span><\/span>known as the Ganga<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span>. The Alaknanda has its source in the S<\/span><\/span><\/span>atopanth glacier above Badrinath<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span>.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n

  • Recently, the maiden Indian Navy and European Union Naval Force (EUNAVFOR) exercise began in the <\/span><\/span><\/span>Gulf of Aden<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span>.<\/span><\/span><\/span>\n

    • Concurrently, a virtual \u201cInformation sharing Exercise\u201d was conducted between the <\/span><\/span><\/span>Indian Navy\u2019s Information Fusion Centre for the Indian Ocean Region<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span> and <\/span><\/span><\/span>Maritime Security Centre-Horn of Africa .<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

      • It is the first joint naval exercise between the Indian Navy and European Union Naval Force (EUNAVFOR).<\/span><\/span><\/span>\n

        • European Union Naval Force Somalia (EUNAVFOR) is the EU\u2019s counter-piracy mission off the coast of Somalia.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n
        • Countries participating in the exercise are India, Italy, Spain and France.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n
        • The <\/span><\/span><\/span>two-day exercise<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span> will see high tempo-naval operations at sea, including advanced air defence and anti-submarine exercises, cross deck helicopter operations, tactical manoeuvres, boarding operations, underway replenishment, search and rescue and other maritime security operations.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

          • INS Trikand of India Navy\u00a0 is participating in the exercise.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n
          • This engagement showcases increased levels of synergy, coordination and interoperability between IN and EUNAVFOR.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

            • Ships of the four navies<\/span><\/span><\/span> will endeavour to enhance and hone their war-fighting skills <\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span>and their ability as an integrated force to promote, peace, security and stability in the maritime domain<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n
            • It also underscores the shared values as partner navies, in ensuring freedom of seas and commitment to an open, inclusive and a rules-based international order.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n

      • The city of Lothal stood beside a <\/span><\/span><\/span>Bhogava river<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span>, a tributary of <\/span><\/span><\/span>Sabarmati<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span>, in Gujarat, close to the Gulf of Khambhat.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n
      • It was situated near areas where raw materials such as <\/span><\/span><\/span>semi-precious stones were <\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span>easily available.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n
      • This was an important centre for making objects out of stone, shell and metal.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n
      • There was also a storehouse in the city.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/span>\n

        • A building that was found here was probably a workshop for making beads: pieces of stone, half made beads, tools for bead making, and finished beads have all been found here<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n
        • The excavated site of Lothal is the <\/span><\/span><\/span>only port-town of the Indus Valley Civilisation<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span>.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n

Launched by the <\/span><\/span><\/span>Ministry of Commerce & Industry<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span>, is an IT based solution for the implementation of <\/span><\/span><\/span>smart enforcement of rules and regulations <\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span>related to road-based v<\/span><\/span><\/span>iolations by trucks<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span>.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

  • Need: <\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span>On an average, a truck in India covers 50,000-60,000 km a year, compared to over 300,000 km in advanced nations such as the United States.<\/span><\/span><\/span>\n
      \n
    • One of the key reasons is delays due to random stoppages for physical checking of vehicles and verification of documents e<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n
    • While GST has helped improve the situation, there is a long way to go to reach the advanced country levels.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n
    • Features: <\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span>It would fetch data related to goods being carried on the truck from the existing<\/span><\/span><\/span> Goods and Services Tax Network (GSTN) database<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span>, and the information related to the vehicle from the <\/span><\/span><\/span>VAHAN database.<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span>\n
