It is the <strong>highest year-on-year rise<\/strong> since 1999.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align:justify\"><span style=\"font-size:11pt\"><span style=\"background-color:white\"><span style=\"font-family:Arial,sans-serif\"><span style=\"font-size:10.0pt\">This has been attributed mainly to capacity expansion for <strong>solar and wind energy<\/strong>, which amounted to <strong>135GW <\/strong>and <strong>115GW <\/strong>respectively. A <strong>20GW<\/strong> capacity of <strong>hydropower <\/strong>and about 10GW of other renewable energy, led by bioenergy, also contributed to the growth.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align:justify\"><span style=\"font-size:11pt\"><span style=\"background-color:white\"><span style=\"font-family:Arial,sans-serif\"><span style=\"font-size:10.0pt\">After 2022, the annual growth in <strong>China <\/strong>will <strong>slow down<\/strong>. However the <strong>rest of the world<\/strong> will continue to see a <strong>growth <\/strong>in renewables.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align:justify\"><span style=\"font-size:11pt\"><span style=\"background-color:white\"><span style=\"font-family:Arial,sans-serif\"><span style=\"font-size:10.0pt\">IEA has<strong> asked governments to prioritise policies<\/strong> that <strong>encourage greater investment <\/strong>in <strong>solar <\/strong>and <strong>wind energy<\/strong>. It remains the <strong>primary challenge<\/strong> to renewable energy deployment in India.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align:justify\"><span style=\"font-size:11pt\"><span style=\"background-color:white\"><span style=\"font-family:Arial,sans-serif\"><span style=\"font-size:10.0pt\">In India, the distributed PV expansion (residential installations) remained <strong>sluggish <\/strong>due to <strong>administrative and regulatory challenges in multiple states<\/strong>.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align:justify\"><span style=\"font-size:11pt\"><span style=\"background-color:white\"><span style=\"font-family:Arial,sans-serif\"><span style=\"font-size:10.0pt\">The <strong>challenges<\/strong> of<strong> integrating renewable<\/strong> <strong>energy into the grid<\/strong> also acted as an impediment.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify\"><span style=\"font-size:11pt\"><span style=\"font-family:Arial,sans-serif\"><strong><u><span style=\"font-size:10.0pt\">Renewable Energy Sector in India<\/span><\/u><\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align:justify\"><span style=\"font-size:11pt\"><span style=\"background-color:white\"><span style=\"font-family:Arial,sans-serif\"><span style=\"font-size:10.0pt\">As on 31st October <strong>2020<\/strong>, India\u2019s <strong>total renewable energy installed capacity <\/strong>(excluding hydro power above 25 MW) had reached over<strong> 89.63 GW<\/strong>. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align:justify\"><span style=\"font-size:11pt\"><span style=\"background-color:white\"><span style=\"font-family:Arial,sans-serif\"><span style=\"font-size:10.0pt\">The government has made a commitment that<strong> 175 GW <\/strong>of renewable energy capacity will be installed by the <strong>year 2022<\/strong>. This includes 100 GW from solar, 60 GW from wind, 10 GW from biomass and 5 GW from small hydro power.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align:justify\"><span style=\"font-size:11pt\"><span style=\"background-color:white\"><span style=\"font-family:Arial,sans-serif\"><span style=\"font-size:10.0pt\">India\u2019s <strong>wind power potential<\/strong> at hub height of 120 meters is<strong> 695 GW<\/strong>.
