  • The International Nurses Day is celebrated to mark the birth anniversary of <\/span><\/span><\/span>Florence Nightingale<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span>, the founder of modern nursing.<\/span><\/span><\/span>\n

    • Nightingale was a <\/span><\/span><\/span>social reformer<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span> and a statistician.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n
    • During the <\/span><\/span><\/span>Crimean War<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span>, she played a pivotal role in organising care for wounded soldiers.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n
    • She was called <\/span><\/span><\/span>\u201cThe Lady with the Lamp\u201d.<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n
    • She took care of wounded soldiers at Constantinople. Also, the reputation for nurses in the <\/span><\/span><\/span>Victorian culture<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span> began to increase because of her.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n
    • Victorian culture is the period of reign of Queen Victoria, that is, between 1837 and 1901.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n

Sovereign Gold Bond Scheme<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/h3>\n<\/td>\n

  • Launched in: <\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span>November, 2015.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n
  • Objective:<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span> To reduce the demand for physical gold and shift a part of the domestic savings (to purchase of gold) into financial savings.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n
  • Issuance:<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span> The Gold Bonds are issued as Government of India Stock under the <\/span><\/span><\/span>Government Securities (GS) Act, 2006<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span>.<\/span><\/span><\/span>\n
      \n
    • These are issued by the <\/span><\/span><\/span>Reserve Bank of India (RBI)<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span> on behalf of the Government of India.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n
    • These bonds will be sold through various Commercial banks, Stock Holding Corporation of India Limited (SHCIL), designated post offices (as may be notified) and recognised stock exchanges viz., National Stock Exchange of India Limited and Bombay Stock Exchange, either directly or through agents.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n
    • Eligibility:<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span> It is restricted for sale to resident individuals, Hindu Undivided Families (HUFs), trusts, universities and charitable institutions.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n
    • Price:<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span> The price is calculated based on the spot price of gold as provided by the <\/span><\/span><\/span>Mumbai-based India Bullion and Jewellers Association (IBJA)<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span>.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n
    • Term:<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span> Maturity period is <\/span><\/span><\/span>8 years<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span>, with an option to exit the investment after the first five years.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n
    • Investment Limit:<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span> Gold bonds can be purchased in the multiples of <\/span><\/span><\/span>one unit<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span>.<\/span><\/span><\/span>\n

      • The upper limit for retail (individual) investors and HUFs is 4 kilograms (4,000 units) each per financial year.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n
      • For trusts and similar entities, an upper limit of 20 kilograms per financial year is applicable.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n
      • Minimum permissible investment is 1 gram of gold.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n
      • Interest Rate:<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span> A fixed rate of 2.5% per annum is applicable on the scheme, payable semi-annually.<\/span><\/span><\/span>\n

        • The interest on Gold Bonds shall be taxable as per the provision of <\/span><\/span><\/span>Income Tax Act, 1961<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span>.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

Target Olympic Podium Scheme (TOPS)<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/h3>\n<\/td>\n

  • Implemented by: <\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span>Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports.<\/span><\/span><\/span>\n

    • Under the Scheme, the ministry will identify those athletes who are potential medal winners in Olympics and Paralympics.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n
    • Aim: <\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span>To provide assistance to India\u2019s top athletes (including junior and sub-junior athletes) and boost their preparations so that they can win medals in future <\/span><\/span><\/span>Olympics (Tokyo: 2021, Paris: 2024 and Los Angeles: 2028)<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span> and <\/span><\/span><\/span>Paralympics<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span>.<\/span><\/span><\/span>\n
