Article 224A of the Constitution<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/h3>\n<\/td>\n

  • It allows the Chief Justice of a High Court<\/strong> to appoint a person who has been a judge earlier<\/strong> to sit as a judge of the court with the prior consent of the President<\/strong>. <\/span><\/span><\/li>\n
  • The provision has been invoked very rarely<\/strong> in the judicial history of India.<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n
  • It was inserted <\/strong>by the Constitution (Fifteenth Amendment) Act, 1963<\/strong>.<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n
  • Recently, the Supreme Court<\/strong> has allowed High Courts to start appointing retired HC judges as ad hoc judges for two to five years if there is a pendency<\/span><\/strong><\/a> of a large number of cases<\/strong>.<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

Codex Alimentarius Commission (CAC)<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/h3>\n<\/td>\n

  • It is an intergovernmental food standards<\/strong> body, set up in May 1963<\/strong>.<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n
  • It was established jointly by the UN\u2019s Food and Agriculture Organisation <\/strong>(FAO) and the World Health Organisation<\/strong> (WHO), within the framework of the Joint Food Standards Programme<\/strong>.<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n
  • Objective:<\/strong> To protect consumer\u2019s health and ensure fair practices in food trade.<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n
  • Members: <\/strong>Currently, 189 members<\/strong> (188 UN member countries and the European Union).<\/span><\/span>\n

    • India <\/strong>became a member in 1964<\/strong>.<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n
    • Timor-Leste<\/strong> is the latest country to join it in 2018<\/strong>.<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n
    • Voluntary<\/strong> in nature, Codex standards<\/strong> can be general or specific and are recognised by WTO Agreements as reference standards for international trade and trade dispute settlement.<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n
    • Meeting:<\/strong> Once a year alternating between Geneva and Rome<\/strong>.<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n
    • Funding:<\/strong> Through regular budgets of WHO and FAO with all work subject to approval of the two governing bodies of the parent organizations.<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n
    • Recently, the 5th<\/sup> session of the Codex Committee on Spices and Culinary Herbs<\/strong> (CCSCH) has been inaugurated inorder to harmonize Codex standards for spices products in global trade.<\/span><\/span>\n

  • It is organized as a bi-monthly webinar<\/strong> that\u00a0 will provide states with opportunities to exchange knowledge on:<\/span><\/span>\n
