{"id":14844,"date":"2021-04-17T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2021-04-17T00:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.nextias.com\/current_affairs\/uncategorized\/17-04-2021\/multisystem-inflammatory-syndrome-in-children-mis-c\/"},"modified":"2021-04-17T00:00:00","modified_gmt":"2021-04-17T00:00:00","slug":"multisystem-inflammatory-syndrome-in-children-mis-c","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.nextias.com\/ca\/current-affairs\/17-04-2021\/multisystem-inflammatory-syndrome-in-children-mis-c","title":{"rendered":"Multisystem Inflammatory Syndrome in Children (MIS-C)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>In News<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Report shows that a significant number of young people with <strong>Multisystem Inflammatory Syndrome in Children (MIS-C)<\/strong> also develop neurological symptoms.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Multisystem Inflammatory Syndrome in Children (MIS-C)<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>It is a newly identified and serious health condition associated with SARS-CoV-2 infection.<\/li>\n<li>It is a rare but severe <strong>hyperinflammatory condition <\/strong>in children and adolescents that typically occurs 2\u20136 weeks after acute SARS-CoV-2 infection.<\/li>\n<li>This was <strong>first described in Europe<\/strong> in April, 2020, and can affect multiple organ systems, including cardiac, gastrointestinal, haematological, dermatological, neurological, respiratory, and renal systems.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Neurological Complications associated with this<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A new report shows that a significant number of young people with the syndrome also <strong>develop neurological symptoms<\/strong>, including hallucinations, confusion, speech impairments and problems with balance and coordination.<\/li>\n<li>The new findings strengthen the theory that the syndrome is related to a surge of inflammation<strong> triggered by an immune response to the virus.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Causes of MIS-C<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Some researchers believe that MIS-C is a <strong>delayed response<\/strong> to the coronavirus which in turn causes<strong> massive inflammation<\/strong> in the body and as a result damages organs.<\/li>\n<li>Others believe it is a result of the children\u2019s immune response making antibodies against the virus.<\/li>\n<li>However, due to the <strong>small percentage of children developing MIS-C symptoms<\/strong>, it is difficult for doctors and researchers to study the disorder.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Treatment &#038; Diagnosis<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Currently, there is <strong>no single test to diagnose MIS-C<\/strong>. It is based on symptoms as well as several blood tests to look for signs of inflammation in the body.<\/li>\n<li>There is<strong> no singular treatment <\/strong>for MIS-C.
