  • It is an indicator of business activity<\/strong>, both in the manufacturing <\/strong>and services sectors<\/strong>.<\/li>\n
  • It is a survey-based measure<\/strong> that asks the respondents about changes in their perception of some key business variables<\/strong> from the month before.<\/li>\n
  • It is calculated separately for the manufacturing and services sectors<\/strong> and then a composite index<\/strong> is constructed.<\/li>\n
  • It is derived from a series of qualitative questions<\/strong>.<\/li>\n
  • A figure above 50 denotes expansion<\/strong> in business activity. Anything below 50 denotes contraction<\/strong>.\n

    • Higher the difference from this mid-point, the greater the expansion or contraction.<\/li>\n
    • The rate of expansion can also be judged by comparing the PMI with that of the previous month data.<\/li>\n

Spices Board India<\/h3>\n<\/td>\n

  • It was constituted in February 1987<\/strong> under the Spices Board Act 1986<\/strong> with the merger of the erstwhile Cardamom Board<\/strong> (1968) and Spices Export Promotion Council<\/strong> (1960).<\/li>\n
  • It is one of the five Commodity Boards<\/strong> functioning under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry<\/strong>.<\/li>\n
  • The autonomous <\/strong>body is responsible for the export promotion of the 52 scheduled spices and the development of Cardamom (small and large).<\/li>\n
  • It is an international link<\/strong> between the Indian exporters and the importers abroad<\/strong> and has been spearheading activities for excellence of Indian spices, involving every segment of the industry.<\/li>\n
  • It has signed a Memorandum of Understanding<\/strong> (MoU) with the United Nations Development Programme<\/strong> (UNDP) India\u2019s Accelerator Lab<\/strong> to build a blockchain-based traceability interface<\/strong> for Indian spices to enhance transparency in trading.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

Exercice La P\u00e9rouse<\/h3>\n

  • The three-day multilateral maritime<\/strong> exercise \u2018La P\u00e9rouse\u2019<\/strong> started in the Eastern Indian Ocean Region.<\/strong><\/li>\n
  • It involves <\/strong>the French Navy, Indian Navy, Royal Australian Navy (RAN), Japan<\/strong> Maritime Self Defence Force (JMSDF) and the United States Navy (USN) <\/strong>\n
      \n
    • The naval exercise is being led by the French Navy.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n
    • Exercise La P\u00e9rouse will witness advanced naval operations<\/strong> including surface warfare, anti-air warfare and air defence exercises, weapon firing exercises, cross deck<\/strong> flying operations, tactical manoeuvres and seamanship<\/strong> evolutions such as replenishment at sea.<\/strong><\/li>\n
    • The exercise will showcase high levels of synergy, coordination<\/strong> and interoperability<\/strong> between the friendly navies.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

Integrated Health Information Platform (IHIP)<\/h3>\n

  • The Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare <\/strong>virtually launched the Integrated Health Information Platform (IHIP).<\/strong><\/li>\n
  • India is the first country<\/strong> in the world to adopt such an advanced disease surveillance system<\/strong>.<\/li>\n
  • The new version of IHIP will house the data entry and management<\/strong> for India’s disease surveillance program.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
      \n
    • It will provide analyzed<\/strong> reports on mobile or other electronic devices.<\/strong><\/li>\n
    • \u00a0It can easily be integrated with another ongoing surveillance program <\/strong>while having the feature of the addition of special surveillance modules.<\/strong><\/li>\n
    • It is in sync with the National Digital Health<\/strong> Mission <\/strong>and fully compatible<\/strong> with the other digital information<\/strong> systems presently being used in India<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

Chenab Bridge<\/h3>\n

  • Chenab Bridge<\/strong>, the world’s highest railway bridge<\/strong>, is 1315 m long and will be 35 meters higher than Eiffel Tower in Paris.<\/strong><\/li>\n
  • The Chenab bridge<\/strong> is part of the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla rail link project (USBRL)<\/strong> and completion<\/strong> of the steel arch<\/strong> is an important construction milestone<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    • The bridge is being built at a cost of ?1,486 crores<\/strong> and can withstand high wind speed<\/strong> up to 266 km per hour.<\/strong><\/li>\n
    • The bridge will provide the much-needed all-weather connectivity<\/strong> between Kashmir and the rest of the county. <\/strong><\/li>\n
    • The bridge will be able to withstand earthquakes with a magnitude<\/strong> of up to eight and high-intensity blasts<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
