National Company Law Appellate Tribunal (NCLAT)<\/h3>\n<\/td>\n

  • It was established under Section 410<\/strong> of the Companies Act, 2013<\/strong> and was constituted on 1st June 2016.<\/li>\n
  • It hears appeals against the orders of<\/strong>\n
      \n
    • National Company Law Tribunal<\/strong> (NCLT).<\/li>\n
    • NCLT(s) under Section 61<\/strong> of the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code,<\/strong> 2016<\/strong> (IBC).<\/li>\n
    • Insolvency and Bankruptcy Board<\/strong> of India under Section 202<\/strong> and Section 211<\/strong> of IBC.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n
    • It also hears and disposes of appeals against any direction issued or decision made or order passed by the Competition Commission of India<\/strong> (CCI), as per the amendment brought to Section 410<\/strong> of the Companies Act, 2013<\/strong> by Section 172<\/strong> of the Finance Act, 2017<\/strong>.<\/li>\n
    • NCLAT decisions can be challenged in the Supreme Court <\/strong>on a point of law.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

United Nations Peacekeeping<\/h3>\n<\/td>\n

  • It is a unique global partnership<\/strong>, bringing together the General Assembly<\/strong>, the Security Council<\/strong>, the Secretariat<\/strong>, troop and police contributors<\/strong> and the host governments<\/strong> in a combined effort to maintain international peace and security.<\/li>\n
  • It has unique strengths<\/strong>, including the legitimacy of the UN Charter<\/strong>, burden sharing, and an ability to deploy and sustain troops and police from around the globe, integrating them with civilian peacekeepers to advance multidimensional mandates.<\/li>\n
  • It is guided by three basic principles<\/strong>\n

    • Consent of the parties.<\/li>\n
    • Impartiality.<\/li>\n
    • Non-use of force except in self-defence and defence of the mandate.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n
    • UN peacekeepers provide security and political and peacebuilding support<\/strong> to help countries make the difficult, early transition from conflict to peace.\n

      • India has recently delivered 2 lakh doses of Covid-19 vaccines for UN peacekeepers <\/strong>worldwide.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n
      • UN military personnel<\/strong> are the Blue Helmets<\/strong> on the ground and currently, consist of over 70,000 military personnel <\/strong>contributed by national armies from across the globe.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

Pong Dam Lake Wildlife Sanctuary<\/h3>\n<\/td>\n

  • Pong Dam or reservoir was constructed in 1975 <\/strong>on the river Beas <\/strong>in the wetland of Shivalik hills of Kangra<\/strong> district of Himachal Pradesh<\/strong>.<\/li>\n
  • It is also known as Maharana Pratap Sagar<\/strong>.<\/li>\n
  • It was declared a wildlife sanctuary in 1983<\/strong> and is also a Ramsar site<\/strong>.<\/li>\n
  • In 1994<\/strong>, the Government of India declared it a \u201cWetland of National Importance<\/strong>\u201d.<\/li>\n
  • It contains several deforested islands which attract a large number of waterbirds<\/strong>.<\/li>\n
  • Flora<\/strong>\n

    • Submerged vegetation, an extensive swamp with reed beds and grasslands and some mixed deciduous and Chir Pine forest.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n
    • Fauna<\/strong>\n

      • Nilgai, Sambar, Barking Deer, Wild Boar, Clawless Otter, Leopard, etc.<\/li>\n

  • It bore the brunt of the cyclone Amphan <\/strong>and residents are facing the impact of climate change.<\/li>\n
  • Location: <\/strong>150 km south of Kolkata where the Hooghly river meets the Bay of Bengal<\/strong>.\n

    • It lies near Sagar Island<\/strong>, which has a population of two lakh people and is the biggest island <\/strong>of the Sundarban archipelago<\/strong>.\n

      • Sagar island hosts the annual Gangasagar pilgrimage<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n
      • Threats:<\/strong> Quickly disappearing due to erosion and sea-level rise.\n

Red Algal Seaweed Species<\/h3>\n<\/td>\n

  • Two varieties<\/strong> have been discovered along the coasts of Kanyakumari in Tamil Nadu<\/strong> and in Gujarat<\/strong> and Daman Diu<\/strong>, recently.\n
      \n
    • The fine and hairy algae<\/strong> Hypnea indica<\/em><\/strong> was discovered in Shivrajpur and Somnath Pathan in Gujarat<\/strong>.<\/li>\n
    • Hypnea Bullata<\/em><\/strong> grew along the coastline of Daman and Diu<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n
    • It is for the first time<\/strong>, that these have been discovered along Indian coasts<\/strong>.<\/li>\n
    • These thrived on rocks<\/strong> that submerged during high tides and remain exposed during low tides.<\/li>\n
    • Scientists applied morphology <\/strong>with the DNA barcoding technique<\/strong> in order to confirm the novelty <\/strong>of these two species.<\/li>\n
    • These can fetch good monetary value<\/strong> if commercial-scale cultivation is taken up but seaweed cultivation is yet unpopular<\/strong> in India.<\/li>\n
    • Hypnea contains Carrageenan<\/strong>, a biomolecule commonly used in the food industry that can be a potential raw material<\/strong> for those involved in jelly <\/strong>and ice cream<\/strong> production.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
