{"id":14536,"date":"2021-03-25T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2021-03-25T00:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.nextias.com\/current_affairs\/uncategorized\/25-03-2021\/facts-in-news-109\/"},"modified":"2021-03-25T00:00:00","modified_gmt":"2021-03-25T00:00:00","slug":"facts-in-news-109","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.nextias.com\/ca\/current-affairs\/25-03-2021\/facts-in-news-109","title":{"rendered":"Facts in News"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>\u00a0<\/h2>\n<table border=\"1\" cellspacing=\"0\" style=\"width:735px\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td colspan=\"2\" style=\"background-color:#f6b26b; height:21.0pt; width:468.0pt\">\n<h2>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 Facts in News<\/h2>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td style=\"background-color:#cfe2f3; height:8.85pt; width:117.75pt\">\n<h3>Tulip Garden of Jammu and Kashmir<\/h3>\n<\/td>\n<td style=\"background-color:#efefef; height:8.85pt; width:350.25pt\">\n<ul>\n<li>Located at the foothills of the <strong>Zaberwan range<\/strong> with an <strong>overview of Dal Lake<\/strong>.\n<ul>\n<li>The Zabarwan is a short (32 km) sub-mountain range <strong>between Pir Panjal and the Great Himalayan Range<\/strong> in the <strong>central part of the Kashmir Valley<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>The<strong> Shankaracharya Temple<\/strong> is built on the edge of the central part of the Zabarwan Range.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>The<strong> largest tulip garden in Asia<\/strong> and spread over an area of <strong>about 30 hectares<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>It was <strong>opened in 2007<\/strong> with the aim to<strong> boost floriculture<\/strong> and <strong>tourism<\/strong> in Kashmir Valley.<\/li>\n<li>The garden is<strong> built on a sloping ground in a terraced fashion<\/strong> consisting of seven terraces.<\/li>\n<li>It has <strong>15 lakh flowers of more than 64 varieties<\/strong> with predominantly tulips along with hyacinths, daffodils and ranunculus.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Tulip Festival <\/strong>is organised at the<strong> onset of the spring<\/strong>, and is an annual celebration as part of <strong>tourism efforts<\/strong> by the government of Jammu and Kashmir (J&#038;K).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td style=\"background-color:#efefef; width:117.75pt\">\n<h3>Atal Beemit Vyakti Kalyan Yojana (ABVKY)<\/h3>\n<\/td>\n<td style=\"background-color:#cfe2f3; width:350.25pt\">\n<ul>\n<li>It was introduced by the <strong>Employees\u2019 State Insurance Corporation<\/strong> (ESIC).<\/li>\n<li>It is a<strong> once in a lifetime welfare measure<\/strong> for employees covered under <strong>Section 2(9) of the ESI Act, 1948<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>It aims to provide <strong>relief to the Insured Persons<\/strong> (IPs) who have become unemployed.<\/li>\n<li>It was<strong> introduced on 1st July 2018<\/strong> on a pilot basis for two years and has now been <strong>extended <\/strong>for another year<strong> till 30th June 2021<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Major Revised Provisions<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Rate of unemployment relief<\/strong> has been <strong>enhanced to 50 per cent <\/strong>of wages from an <strong>earlier <\/strong>rate of <strong>25 per cent<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Insured person should have been in insurable employment for <strong>minimum two years immediately before unemployment<\/strong> and should have contributed for <strong>not less than 78 days<\/strong> in <strong>one of the remaining three contribution periods<\/strong>. Earlier this condition was a minimum contribution of 78 days in four contribution periods.<\/li>\n<li>Claim shall become <strong>due 30 days after<\/strong> the date of unemployment. <strong>Earlier<\/strong>,<strong> <\/strong>this period was <strong>90 days<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>The <strong>claim <\/strong>of the IP<strong> need not be forwarded<\/strong> by the employer and may be<strong> submitted by an IP<\/strong> in the prescribed claim form duly completed<strong> online or directly<\/strong> to the branch office.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td style=\"background-color:#cfe2f3; width:117.75pt\">\n<h3>Suez Canal<\/h3>\n<\/td>\n<td style=\"background-color:#efefef; width:350.25pt\">\n<ul>\n<li>A <strong>human-made<\/strong> waterway, it is<strong> one of the world\u2019s most heavily used shipping lanes<\/strong>.\n<ul>\n<li>It carries<strong> over 12% of world trade<\/strong> by volume and <strong>30% of all container ships<\/strong> pass through it.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Built in <strong>1869<\/strong>, it provides a major<strong> shortcut for ships<\/strong> moving <strong>between Europe and Asia<\/strong>, who before its construction had to <strong>sail around Africa<\/strong> to complete the same journey.<\/li>\n<li>It <strong>connects the Mediterranean<\/strong> and the <strong>Red Sea<\/strong> through <strong>Egypt<\/strong> and extends <strong>193 km<\/strong> between <strong>Port Said<\/strong> in the north and <strong>Port Suez<\/strong> in the south.<\/li>\n<li>It was<strong> controlled by British and French<\/strong> interests in its initial years but was<strong> nationalised in 1956<\/strong> by Egypt\u2019s then leader Gamal Abdel Nasser.\n<ul>\n<li>It is a major <strong>source of income for Egypt\u2019s economy<\/strong>, which earned USD 5.61 billion in revenues from it in 2020.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cfstatic.nextias.com\/cdn-cgi\/image\/format=auto\/file_library\/mix_content\/138102708082754290_image.png\" style=\"height:275px;
