Muria Tribe<\/h3>\n<\/td>\n

  • It is a Gond tribe<\/strong> from the highlands of the Bastar<\/strong> region in southern Chhattisgarh<\/strong>.\n
      \n
    • Gond is a Scheduled Tribe (ST) from central and south-central India<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n
    • They are known for their youth dormitories<\/strong> (ghotul<\/em>) in which the unmarried of both sexes lead a highly organized social life<\/strong> and receive training in civic duties and in sexual practices.<\/li>\n
    • They have the custom of making dead pillars <\/strong>(gudi<\/em>) in South Bastar, <\/strong>where people are buried with a wide and sharp 6-7 feet high stone<\/strong> placed on the grave.<\/li>\n
    • Muria tribal women participate in barter systems<\/strong> to exchange forest products<\/strong> like mahua flower, tamarind and other minor forest products.\n
        \n
      • Chhattisgarh is known as India\u2019s Mahua Bowl<\/strong>.<\/li>\n
      • Mahua (Madhuca longifolia<\/em>) is an Indian tropical tree<\/strong> found largely in the central and north Indian plains<\/strong> and forests.<\/li>\n
      • The dried flower<\/strong> is used to brew liquor<\/strong> by the local tribes.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

Lachit Borphukan<\/h3>\n<\/td>\n

  • Born:<\/strong> 24th November 1622.\n
      \n
    • This day is celebrated by the people of Assam and the nation as Lachit Diwas<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n
    • He was an Army General <\/strong>of Ahom (Assam) Kingdom and is revered as the greatest military hero of Assam<\/strong>.<\/li>\n
    • He excelled in the art of Guerrilla Warfare<\/strong>.<\/li>\n
    • He is known for his exemplary leadership in the Battle of Saraighat<\/strong> (1671), where the Ahoms defeated the Mughal forces<\/strong>.\n
        \n
      • The battle was fought on the Brahmaputra River <\/strong>near Saraighat and was the last major attempt by the Mughals<\/strong> to extend their empire into Assam.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n
      • The Lachit Borphukan gold medal<\/strong> is awarded to the best cadet from the National Defence Academy.<\/strong>\n
          \n
        • It was instituted in 1999<\/strong> to inspire defence personnel to emulate Borphukan\u2019s heroism and sacrifices.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n
        • Death:<\/strong> 25th April 1672.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

Gandhi Peace Prize<\/h3>\n<\/td>\n

  • It is given by the Ministry of Culture<\/strong> for social, economic and political transformation through non-violence<\/strong>.<\/li>\n
  • It was instituted in the year 1995<\/strong>.<\/li>\n
  • The award comprises Rs. 1 crore<\/strong>, a citation<\/strong>, a plaque <\/strong>and an item of traditional handicraft or handloom<\/strong>.<\/li>\n
  • Eligibility:<\/strong>\n
      \n
    • Given to individuals, associations, institutions or organizations<\/strong> who have worked selflessly for peace, non-violence and amelioration of human sufferings particular to the less-privileged section of society contributing towards social justice and harmony.<\/li>\n
    • Open to all persons<\/strong> regardless of nationality, race, language, caste, creed or gender.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n
    • The \u2018Father of the Nation<\/strong>\u2019 of Bangladesh<\/strong> Sheikh Mujibur Rahman<\/strong> and the late Sultan of Oman<\/strong>, Qaboos bin Said Al Said<\/strong>, would be awarded the prize for 2020 <\/strong>and 2019 respectively<\/strong>.\n

      • This is the first time<\/strong> that the prize is being awarded posthumously<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

Standing External Advisory Committee (SEAC)<\/h3>\n

<\/h3>\n<\/td>\n

  • It was set up by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI).<\/strong>\n
      \n
    • The constitution of an SEAC was also mentioned in the RBI guidelines for \u2018on-tap licensing of small finance banks\u2019.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n
    • It will be a five-member committee<\/strong>, headed by former RBI Deputy Governor Shyamala Gopinath.<\/strong><\/li>\n
    • It comprises eminent persons with experience in banking, the financial sector and other relevant areas<\/strong>.<\/li>\n
    • The tenure of this SEAC will be for three years<\/strong>.<\/li>\n
    • It will evaluate applications for universal banks and small finance<\/strong> banks.<\/li>\n
    • It will set up its own procedures to screen the applications.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

  • This year Spring Equinox took place on March 20th in the Northern Hemisphere.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    Equinoxes <\/strong><\/p>\n

    • The word equinox is derived from two Latin words \u2013 aequus (equal) and nox (night).<\/strong><\/li>\n
    • There are only two times of the year when the Earth\u2019s axis is tilted neither toward nor away from the sun,<\/strong> which results in a nearly equal amount of daylight<\/strong> and darkness at all latitudes.<\/strong>\n
        \n
      • \u00a0These events are referred to as Equinoxes.<\/li>\n
      • There are two equinoxes namely Vernal and\u00a0 Autumnal.<\/strong><\/li>\n
      • The equinoxes happen in March (about March 21) and September (about September 23) on these days\u00a0 the Sun is exactly above the Equator<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

        Reasons:<\/strong><\/p>\n

        • The phenomenon occurs due to the Earth\u2019s axial tilt<\/strong>, or the angle by which the planet is tilted relative to the Sun<\/strong>.\n

          • The imaginary axis of our planet is not straight up and down but is tilted by 23.5 degrees. <\/strong><\/li>\n
          • This is why different regions of the Earth experience different measures of sunlight.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

            • \u00a0<\/strong>An equinox occurs when the tilt of the Earth’s axis is neither inclined away from nor towards the Sun. <\/strong>\n
                \n
              • This leads to an almost equal duration<\/strong> of the day and the night on Equinox day. <\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

Study In India Programme<\/h3>\n

  • The programme was launched in 2018 by the Ministry of Human Resource Development and is currently partnered with 117 institutes across India.<\/li>\n
  • It aims at attracting international students to pursue higher studies in the country.<\/li>\n
