{"id":14272,"date":"2021-03-08T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2021-03-08T00:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.nextias.com\/current_affairs\/uncategorized\/08-03-2021\/janaushadhi\/"},"modified":"2021-03-08T00:00:00","modified_gmt":"2021-03-08T00:00:00","slug":"janaushadhi","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.nextias.com\/ca\/current-affairs\/08-03-2021\/janaushadhi","title":{"rendered":"Janaushadhi"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>In News<\/strong>: Recently, PM addressed Janaushadhi Diwas celebrations and interacted with beneficiaries of Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Pariyojana through video conferencing.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>He dedicated to the nation the <strong>7,500th Janaushadhi Kendra<\/strong> at North Eastern Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health and Medical Sciences (NEIGRIHMS), Shillong.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>JanAushadhi Yojana<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>It was launched in 2015 to provide <strong>quality-generic medicines<\/strong> by the <strong>Department of pharmaceuticals<\/strong> of the Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers.<\/li>\n<li>It aims to provide affordable healthcare to all by making medicine available, accessible and affordable.<\/li>\n<li>The nodal agency is <strong>Bureau of Pharma Public Sector Undertakings of India (BPPI)<\/strong>.\n<ul>\n<li>It is under the Department of Pharmaceuticals.<\/li>\n<li>It supports the CPSUs to coordinate the sales, marketing, supply and procurement of generic medicines.<\/li>\n<li>These medicines are distributed to the healthcare seekers through <strong>Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Kendras<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Drugs sold under the Scheme<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>Procured generic medicines are sold at 50% to 90% lesser prices as compared to the market prices of branded medicines.<\/li>\n<li>Quality is assured by tests at NABL (National Accreditation Board Laboratories) accredited laboratories<\/li>\n<li>Drug manufacturers are also compliant with WHO GMP (World Health Organisation\u2019s Good Manufacturing Practices) benchmarks.<\/li>\n<li>Government grants of up to 2.5 Lakhs are provided for setting up of PMBJKs.<\/li>\n<li>Even, Railway ministry has given in-principle approval to the opening up of Jan Aushadi Kendras at railway stations and other railway establishments under PMBJP.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>To reinvigorate the scheme, it was renamed as <strong>PM Bhartiya Jan Aushadhi Pariyojana (PMBJP)<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Objectives\/ Aims:<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>To educate the masses about the generic medicines and that high prices are not always synonymous with high quality.<\/li>\n<li>To cover all therapeutic groups and create demand for generic medicines through medical practitioners.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Need<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Reduce <strong>Out of Pocket Expenditure:<\/strong> Under PMBJP, Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Kendras (PMBJK) are set up across the country.\n<ul>\n<li>It can bring many families out of vicious cycle of Poverty.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Promotion of Generic Drugs: <\/strong>\u00a0The Indian Pharmaceuticals has an upper hand in manufacturing Generic Drugs and hence it will boost AtmaNirbhar Bharat, Make in India.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Better availability and affordability:<\/strong> The presence of 7500 Jan Aushadhi Kendras in remote villages and Railway Stations makes it a wonderful initiative for Eradication of Health Poverty.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Awareness about Sanitary Pads: <\/strong>The JanAushadhi Kendras are also involved in making Sanitary Pads more available in India.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<table border=\"1\" cellspacing=\"0\" style=\"width:624px\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td style=\"background-color:#fff2cc; width:6.5in\">\n<p><strong>About Jan Aushadi Oxo-Biodegradable Sanitary Napkins<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The sanitary napkins were earlier sold for Rs. 2.50 but now the price is further reduced to Rs. 1 due to this new technology.<\/li>\n<li>These sanitary pads are also biodegrade.\n<ul>\n<li>Once discarded, they start decaying after coming in contact with oxygen.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>A very large number of women and girls, especially in Village areas and from unprivileged class suffer due to lack of good quality sanitary pads.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>About Jan Aushadi Sugam Application<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The PMBJP launched a mobile application in order to help people locate the Janaushadhi Kendras in the areas around them.<\/li>\n<li>It will deepen the reach of PMJBY and help needy to get generic medicines at a substantially low cost compared to that of the branded OTC (over-the-counter) ones.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Ayushman Bharat<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Another scheme to reduce Out of pocket expenditure is Ayushman Bharat Yojana.<\/li>\n<li>It has two components.\n<ul>\n<li>Increasing Primary Health Care Centres<\/li>\n<li>Providing yearly Health Insurance upto Rs 5 lakh to 10 crore families for secondary and Tertiary health care.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p>Source: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thehindu.com\/news\/national\/janaushadhi-scheme-relieved-the-poor-of-high-medical-expenses-pm-modi\/article34011688.ece\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">TH<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In News: Recently, PM addressed Janaushadhi Diwas celebrations and interacted with beneficiaries of Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Pariyojana through video conferencing.
