The PM of India had visited Stockholm in <strong>April 2018 for the first India-Nordic Summit.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Key Highlights of the Summit<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The Prime Minister of India <strong>expressed solidarity <\/strong>with the people of Sweden in the wake of the violent attack on<strong> 3rd March .<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Both the leaders underlined that the longstanding close relations between India and Sweden were based on shared values of <strong>democracy, rule of law, pluralism, equality, freedom of speech, <\/strong>and <strong>respect for human rights<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>They reaffirmed their<strong> strong commitment to work for multilateralism, rules-based international <\/strong>order, <strong>counter-terrorism and peace and security<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>They also acknowledged the growing <strong>salience of India\u2019s partnership <\/strong>with the <strong>European Union and EU countries.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>The two leaders reviewed the extensive ongoing engagement between <strong>India and Sweden <\/strong>and expressed s<strong>atisfaction at the implementation of the Joint Action Plan <\/strong>and<strong> Joint Innovation Partnership<\/strong> agreed during <strong>Prime Minister Modi\u2019s visit to Sweden in 2018. <\/strong><\/li>\n<li>The Prime Minister welcomed Sweden\u2019s decision to join <strong>the International Solar Alliance (ISA). <\/strong><\/li>\n<li>The leaders also noted the growing membership of the India-Sweden joint initiative \u2013 the <strong>Leadership Group on Industry Transition (LeadIT).<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>The two leaders also discussed the Covid-19 situation including the <strong>vaccination drive<\/strong> and <strong>stressed the need for vaccine equity<\/strong> by <strong>providing urgent and affordable <\/strong>access to <strong>vaccines across all nations.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Indian -Sweden Relations<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cfstatic.nextias.com\/cdn-cgi\/image\/format=auto\/file_library\/mix_content\/15047299562898142_image.png\" style=\"height:279px; margin-left:50px; margin-right:50px; width:260px\" \/><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Diplomatic<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>Diplomatic ties between <strong>India and Sweden<\/strong> were established in 1949.<\/li>\n<li>The two countries <strong>enjoy a cordial relationship and excellent cooperation<\/strong> in <strong>regional and international fora. <\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Sweden supports India\u2019s membership in the expanded <strong>United Nations Security Council (UNSC). <\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>Sweden also supported India in its membership of the <strong>Missile Technology Control Regime (MTCR)<\/strong> and has extended full support in India\u2019s bid for its pending membership of the <strong>Nuclear Suppliers Group (NSG). <\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Political Relations<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>High level contact between the two countries goes back to 1957 when <strong>Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru visited Sweden. <\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Prime Minister Indira Gandhi visited Sweden to attend the United Nations Conference on the <strong>Human Environment in Stockholm in 1972. <\/strong><\/li>\n<li>The first-ever State Visit by the President of India, Shri Pranab Mukherjee, was in 2015.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Cultural and Educational Relations<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>Indian <strong>music, dance, art, literature, films and cuisine<\/strong> are widely appreciated in <strong>Sweden.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>In the absence of a<strong> Cultural Exchange Agreement<\/strong> between the<strong> two countries, cultural ties are promoted mainly by local associations<\/strong> and by the E<strong>mbassy with the support of the Indian Council of Cultural Relations.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Trade and Economic<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cfstatic.nextias.com\/cdn-cgi\/image\/format=auto\/file_library\/mix_content\/475030737426456600_image.jpg\" style=\"height:179px; width:624px\" \/><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<ul>\n<li>India is Sweden\u2019s <strong>19th largest export market<\/strong> and<strong> third-largest trade partner <\/strong>after China and Japan in Asia.<\/li>\n<li>The main Swedish exports to India are <strong>communication equipment, motor vehicles, paper &#038; pulp products, pharmaceuticals,<\/strong> <strong>chemicals<\/strong> and e<strong>ngineering products<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>The main items of <strong>Indian exports are garments, textiles, chemical products, food products<\/strong>, and <strong>semi-manufactured and manufactured goods.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<table border=\"1\" cellspacing=\"0\" style=\"width:735px\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td style=\"background-color:#fce5cd; width:6.5in\">\n<p><strong>Leadership Group on Industry Transition (LeadIT)<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>It gathers <strong>countries and companies<\/strong> that are committed to<strong> action to achieve the Paris Agreement.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>\u00a0It was launched by the governments of <strong>Sweden and India<\/strong> at the <strong>UN Climate Action Summit<\/strong> in September 2019 and is supported by the<strong> World Economic Forum.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>LeadIT members subscribe to the notion that <strong>energy-intensive industry<\/strong> can and m<strong>ust progress on low-carbon pathways,<\/strong> aiming to achieve <strong>net-zero carbon emissions by 2050.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>First India-Nordic Summit in 2018<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The Prime Minister of india met with the leaders of the five Nordic countries at the First India-Nordic Summit in 2018 and discussed ways to enhance ties with them.\n<ul>\n<li>The Nordic countries comprise Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Relevance of Nordic countries <\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>The Nordic countries have globally recognised strengths in clean technologies, environmental solutions, ports modernisation, cold-chains, skill development and innovation. Nordic competencies fit well with our vision for India&#8217;s transformation.<\/li>\n<li>In areas like clean technologies, maritime solutions, port modernisation, food processing, health, life-sciences and agriculture, Nordic solutions can be useful.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>International Solar Alliance (ISA)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>It\u00a0 is a treaty-based <strong>intergovernmental organization<\/strong>\u00a0 of <strong>sunshine rich<\/strong> countries set up by<strong> India and France<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>It was established during the<strong> UN Climate Change Conference in Paris in 2015<\/strong> and it has <strong>75 signatory countries.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>It is working to <strong>create a global market system<\/strong> to tap the <strong>benefits of solar power <\/strong>and <strong>promote clean energy applications<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Objectives-<\/strong> It paves the way for <strong>future solar generation, storage and technologies<\/strong> for Member countries\u2019 needs by<strong> mobilising over USD 1000 billion by 2030<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>The ISA plays a four-fold role in establishing a global solar market: it is an <strong>accelerator<\/strong>, an<strong> enabler, an incubator, and a facilitator.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>\u00a0It strengthens the climate action in member countries, helping them fulfil the commitments expressed in their <strong>Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs)<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.newsonair.com\/News?title=PM-Modi-holds-virtual-summit-with-his-Swedish-counterpart-Stefan-L%C3%B6fven&#038;id=411162\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Source :AIR<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In News: Recently, India and Sweden have discussed bilateral issues and other regional and multilateral issues of mutual interest at Virtual Summit.
