{"id":14208,"date":"2021-03-04T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2021-03-04T00:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.nextias.com\/current_affairs\/uncategorized\/04-03-2021\/global-bio-india-2021\/"},"modified":"2021-03-04T00:00:00","modified_gmt":"2021-03-04T00:00:00","slug":"global-bio-india-2021","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.nextias.com\/ca\/current-affairs\/04-03-2021\/global-bio-india-2021","title":{"rendered":"Global Bio-India-2021"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>In News:<\/strong> Department of Biotechnology (DBT), Biotechnology Industry Research Assistance Council (BIRAC) are organizing Global Bio-India 2021.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>It is a mega <strong>international congregation of biotechnology stakeholders<\/strong>, including international bodies, regulatory bodies, Central and State Ministries, SMEs, large industries, bioclusters, research institutes, investors, and the startup ecosystem.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Key Highlights<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Theme: <strong>\u201cTransforming lives\u201d<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Tag line: <strong>\u201cBiosciences to Bio-economy\u201d<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>The event has representatives from <strong>50 plus countries<\/strong> with <strong>Switzerland as the key partner and Karnataka as the state partner<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Three-day Global Bio-India 2021 was inaugurated Monday by Harsh Vardhan, the minister of Science &#038; Technology, and Health &#038; Family Welfare.\n<ul>\n<li>It is the largest Bio event and would showcase opportunities in Indian Biotechnology sector to the world.<\/li>\n<li>Multiple products by the private sector like Tech- Ola were launched.\n<ul>\n<li>Tech-Ola is a single window e- marketplace app, which would bring together all public and private sector laboratories, fabrication and prototyping centres.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Indian capability in<strong> Vaccine Production<\/strong> was applauded by WHO delegates.\n<ul>\n<li>India has shown the capacity to be a global-scale manufacturer and also an innovator when it comes to coronavirus vaccines.<\/li>\n<li>As many as 30 vaccines are at different stages of development in India.<\/li>\n<li>Vaccines already in use are\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Covaxin<\/strong>, developed indigenously by Bharat Biotech.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Covishield<\/strong>, developed by Oxford-AstraZeneca and being manufactured at Serum Institute of India.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Project Development Cell for Biotechnology<\/strong> was announced<\/li>\n<li>Two Reports were released:\n<ul>\n<li>\u2018<strong>Indian Bioeconomy Report (IBER)<\/strong>\u2019 by Association of Biotechnology Led Enterprises (ABLE), not-for-profit pan-India forum.<\/li>\n<li>\u2018<strong>Biotech Investment Potential for Indian States Report<\/strong>\u2019 by IFC<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Growth in the biotech sector with 850+ startups in the last year alone is encouraging.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<table border=\"1\" cellspacing=\"0\" style=\"width:624px\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td style=\"background-color:#fff2cc; width:468.0pt\">\n<p><strong>About Biotechnology<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Biotechnology is a broad area of biology, involving the use of living systems and organisms to develop or make products.<\/li>\n<li>Depending on the tools and applications, it often overlaps with related scientific fields.<\/li>\n<li>Biotechnology sector is recognized as the key driver for contributing to India&#8217;s USD 5 Trillion economy target by 2024.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p><strong>Source: <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/pib.gov.in\/PressReleasePage.aspx?PRID=1702130\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>PIB<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In News: Department of Biotechnology (DBT), Biotechnology Industry Research Assistance Council (BIRAC) are organizing Global Bio-India 2021.
