{"id":14164,"date":"2021-03-02T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2021-03-02T00:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.nextias.com\/current_affairs\/uncategorized\/02-03-2021\/6th-edition-of-swachh-sarvekshan-launched\/"},"modified":"2021-03-02T00:00:00","modified_gmt":"2021-03-02T00:00:00","slug":"6th-edition-of-swachh-sarvekshan-launched","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.nextias.com\/ca\/current-affairs\/02-03-2021\/6th-edition-of-swachh-sarvekshan-launched","title":{"rendered":"6th edition of Swachh Sarvekshan Launched"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>In News: <\/strong>The<strong> <\/strong>2nd phase of the Swachh Bharat Mission (SBM), announced in the Union Budget, will be responsible for sewage management in all cities that have less than 1 lakh population.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) also launched the sixth edition of the annual Swachh Survekshan.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>6th edition of Swachh Sarvekshan<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Survey assesses waste segregation, wet waste processing capacity, dry waste recycling, construction and demolition waste processing, and landfill waste.<\/li>\n<li>Over 2,000 surveyors organised by the <strong>Quality Council of India<\/strong> will randomly visit 4,321 cities across the country throughout March to assess them according to sanitation parameters.<\/li>\n<li>It will roll out state rankings after weighing different cities as per following categories:\n<ul>\n<li>Open Defecation Free (ODF),<\/li>\n<li>ODF+ (when the toilets are maintained),<\/li>\n<li>ODF++ (when sewage systems operate) and<\/li>\n<li>Garbage-free rating.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>States will also be given Prerak Dauur Samman awards under following heads:\n<ul>\n<li>Divya (platinum),<\/li>\n<li>Anupam (gold),<\/li>\n<li>Ujjwal (silver),<\/li>\n<li>Udit (bronze), and<\/li>\n<li>Aarohi (copper \/ aspiring).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>For <strong>the first time<\/strong>, districts (subsuming <strong>municipal corporations, municipalities, and town areas<\/strong>) will also be assessed on the basis of their underlying urban local bodies.<\/li>\n<li>There are plans on creating <strong>uniforms<\/strong> for \u201c<strong>safaimitras<\/strong>\u201d, like policemen.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Mysuru<\/strong> won the <strong>first Swachh Survekshan<\/strong> while <strong>Indore<\/strong> has won t<strong>he last three<\/strong>, as the survey expanded from 73 cities in 2016 to 4,242 cities in 2020.\n<ul>\n<li>The 2020 winner will be announced soon.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>The Mission is currently framing the guidelines for <strong>Swachh Survekhshan 2022<\/strong>, which will be more \u201ccitizen centric\u201d and have more importance on technological solutions.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Key Highlights of SBM 2.0<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Major focus will be the segregation of waste at the source.\n<ul>\n<li>This progressive step will reduce the cost, effort and need of segregation waste technology for Urban Local Bodies.<\/li>\n<li>It will target legacy landfills, single-use plastic, and construction and demolition waste.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>The <strong>solid and liquid waste management (SLWM) component of ODF Plus<\/strong> will be monitored on the basis of output-outcome indicators for <strong>four key areas<\/strong>:\n<ul>\n<li>Plastic waste management,<\/li>\n<li>Biodegradable solid waste management (including animal waste management),<\/li>\n<li>Grey water management and<\/li>\n<li>Fecal sludge management.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>The ODF Plus programme will converge with <strong>MGNREGA and Jal Jeevan Mission<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Novel model to converge finances from different vertices<\/strong>:\n<ul>\n<li>From the budget of Dept. of Drinking Water and Sanitation, Rs 52,497 crore will be devolved.<\/li>\n<li>Rest of funds will come from funds being released under\n<ul>\n<li>15th Finance Commission,<\/li>\n<li>MGNREGS and<\/li>\n<li>Revenue generation models particularly for solid and liquid waste management.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<table border=\"1\" cellspacing=\"0\" style=\"width:735px\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td style=\"background-color:#fff2cc;
